| Porcupine Tree their older stuff is trippier but their newer stuff is more progressive rock. its all good though, they are probably my favorite band ever, all their songs are just so perfect.

| Side "C" of Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland" comes second only to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".

| I'm getting into this Swedish band called Pain of Salvation. They're progressive rock or something like that. Not really psychedelic but lots of crazy beats and melodies with some weird vocals. |

| It's only depressing if you view it that way, I find it a very pensive album yes - but you can't deny its musical masterpiece. ![]()

Anyway, last night I was listening to some live Phish stuff, and it was pretty trippy. They use really cool effects and make some crazy sounds in the middle of their jams and songs. I had the "Island Tour" 4/4/98 show on, listening to the song Down With Disease. Epic.

| I like instrumental/techno when I'm high like buckethead and Tiesto. Raps always good for the beats, and techno remixes of rap songs are the best. I NEVER listen to things like the Beatles or the Doors when I'm high.. they're really just a buzzkill :[ I still love em though, haha. |

| I recommend sigur ros- take some getting used to but they have the most unique sound I have ever heard modest mouse (especially older stuff)- if you listen to one Modest Mouse song while high I recommend Dramamine. Seriously it is awesome and trippy when sober, but when stoned. OMG Pink Floyd- obviously.. The Arcade Fire- great, unique sound |

| I'd also suggest some of the earlier, more obscure records in Pink Floyd's catalog. Right from the start, they were meant for big things. Some of these include: (1967) - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn - their debut, the only full album to feature founding member Syd Barrett. This album has a definite "60's" feel to it (meaning Syd took loads of acid) and has been cited as a major influence on many artists today. Definitely check out "Interstellar Overdrive", "Take Up Thy Stephoscope and Walk" and "Astronomy Domine" (1968) - A Saucerful of Secrets - the first album to feature David Gilmour, with a few songs featuring Barrett still. Songs like "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun", "Let There Be More Light" and "A Saucerful of Secrets" are sure to please. (1969) - Music from the film More - their first movie soundtrack, which features some great unknown tunes in the Floyd discography. Listen to "Cirrus Minor", "Green is the Colour", "Cymbaline" and "Dramatic Theme". Also, "The Nile Song" and "Ibiza Bar" are the two most rocking songs the Floyd ever wrote. (1969) - Ummagumma - the first Pink Floyd double album, one LP being live and the other being studio. The live set is all great, containing stellar versions of "Astronomy Domine", "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" and "A Saucerful of Secrets". The studio LP isn't quite as good, but the songs "Granchester Meadows" and "The Narrow Way" might be right up your alley. (1970) - Atom Heart Mother - the Floyd become slightly less experimental on this release and start to establish their signature sound. Epics like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" are good choices. (1971) - Meddle - an album for true Floyd fans. Arguably contains some of their greatest work in the studio EVER. Songs to check out are "One of These Days", "Fearless", "A Pillow of Winds" and the 23 minute epic "Echoes", on of the greatest songs Pink Floyd ever performed. (1972) - Obscured By Clouds - another soundtrack, this time for a French movie titled "La Vallee". One of the most underrated Pink Floyd albums, IMO. The instrumental tracks "When You're In" and "Obscured By Clouds" are excellent, and other songs like "Free Four", "Wots...Uh the Deal", "Childhood's End" and "Absolutely Curtains" are some more hidden gems. Hope any of this helps you guys. I've been recently looking into the pre-DSotM Floyd albums and discovering a TON of great stuff that isn't as well known. |
