| I thought that Dave Lombardo was the drummer from slayer. ![]() My favorite is Danny Carey of TOOL, but the drummer with the most overall skill is Neil Peart. I have had the pleasure of seeing both of these guys play live and both are incredible. The drum solo at the Rush show was the coolest thing I have ever seen.

| Slayer has had a lot of different drummers actually. I don't know if I posted in this thread or not. Fuggit, my favorite drummers of late Danny Carey obviously. He is my favorite drummer. Thomas Haake and Gene Hoglan come in a tied 2nd and I'm going to have to give my third place to Mike Portnoy.

| Well, Lombardo is Slayers 'real' drummer, but he has been in and out of the band for many reasons... It's kind of funny, while Slayer was up and starting he was still working at Kmart. How metal. He quit the band for a while because he wasn't making enough money. The first guy to temporarily replace him was Tony Scaglione, he only played for a year (86-87). Lombardo filled in for a few years up until 1992. Then they got Paul Bostaph, of Testament, to join in. He was the drummer for several of their studio and live albums, including Divine Intervention and God Hates us All (My favorite Slayer album, the drumming is absolutely brutal!). He left to go work on some solo project. Then they got yet another drummer of Testament to join in and replace Paul, Jon Dette (86). He sucked and was fired after a fallout with the bandmembers. So. They got Paul to fill back in, haha. He played up until 2001. He seriously damaged his elbow so was unable to perform with the band anymore. I have Slayers War at the Warfield dvd and he is the drummer in it, not Lombardo. It's one of his last performances with the band. (I've had to prove this to my friends, over and over... they need to read up on their metal history) So. Dave Lombardo came back. From what I hear he hasn't committed to being a permanent member again, but he did help them record Christ Illusion in 06. A lot of people don't know but Eyes of the Insane off that album won a Grammy. ![]() That makes the only drummer who isn't at one time a member of Testament Tony. Pretty nuts, huh? Quote:
Gene Hoglan is huge in the metal drumming industry. His nickname is "the Atomic Clock" because of how technical and brutal, yet precise he manages to be. He's played with Death, Dark Angel, Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend band, as well as Dethkok (and a bunch of other stuff too, he even recorded a song with Opeth off their album Ghost Reveries). Thomas Haake is the drummer of Meshuggah, one of my favorite metal bands. His style is just so fuckin' great, I love it! Youtube is hosting a Meshuggah contest for amateur drummers to compete and see who is best peforming the song Bleed off their new album Obzen (my favorite yet, its so awesome) Here is the song if your curious: ![]() Last edited by SpiralArchitect : 06-08-2008 at 06:39 PM. | |

| Travis Barker - sounds gay, but he was the only talent ever in Blink 182. He's got speed but he's also got really clean fills and a very original style. Dave Weckl - Probably the best drummer as far as funk grooves go, saw him in a clinic. John Bonham - Master of the groove. Chad Smith - Not the most flashy or wild but Chad can fuckin jam. The chili peppers are one of the best bands as far as improv jams go and Chad plays a big part. |
