Haha, Dude! That is so awesome, wow What a great story you have to tell their Feorge Gorman, glad you could share it.

That is interesting he said he tried marijuana but spoke out against it, I wonder if thats how he really felt, I could've sworn I had heard he wasn't against it but I'm unsure.

Looks like I'm going to have to get some more Frank Zappa music, I'm craving some now.... Time to acquire his essentials.

I remember reading that he wrote/composed classical music - does anyone know where you can find it and what his best stuff is regarding that genre of music?

I've never listened to the classical stuff, but London Symphony Orchestra, vol. 1 & 2 is just that, and Boulez Conducts Zappa: The Perfect Stranger is about half classical, half Synclavier.

That's really interesting about the . I read Phil Lesh's book (bassist for the Grateful Dead), Searching For The Sound, and in it he describes one time when the Dead and Zappa were billed to both play on the same night in the same town, on separate stages at the same venue. They both stayed at the same hotel, and all the members of Zappa's band wanted to go hang out with the Grateful Dead after the show but Frank had a strict no-drug rule for all the members of his band. Basically, Phil described the few who were brave enough to come out as being "scared for their very own lives" or something like that. Frank must have been strict about that stuff!

I've recently been getting more and more into his music. Every time I listen to Hot Rats, I love it more and more. Same goes for Waka-Jawaka and Apostrophe ('), though I can't say I've ever heard a Zappa album that I didn't like.

Default I never really got into much of his classical stuff...

...guess I'm just a sucker for those wacky lyrics!

Here is a cut I found, my favorite track from the Jazz From Hell album.

I never heard of his "no drug rule" (although he probably did have one)...but there's some footage of him in concert where a fan passes him a bong, and he says something like "Oh no, it's one of those dope smoking devices, take it AWAY!"

I think he must've just been like naturally stoned all the time. This guy is an absolute fucking madman genius, I am watching/listening to that song/video you posted Feorge, what a crazy song! Listening to an entire album of that might make me run to the loony bin! It sounded so cool though...

I fucking LOVE Frank Zappa. My favourite song is the first song I ever heard from him that inspired me to check out the rest of his stuff: Muffin Man. I heard it on the radio and though "He talks about muffins and cupcakes and then blasts into a mind-blowing guitar solo. This guy's fucking incredible."

I loved the Baby Snakes DVD as well. He's got a lot of great stuff.

"Some people like cupcakes better, I, for one, care less for them."

One of my favorite guitar solos of ALL time!!!!!

It's actually one of the most 'frantic' songs on the album...the rest are a bit mellower.

I watched him on Crossfire once and I liked listening to him speak, but I've never heard him play. I have, however, seen his son do Zappa Plays Zappa a couple of times, and I really enjoyed it. I guess it is Frank's music, but I don't know if it has changed a whole lot now that someone else is doing it- if I like Zappa Plays Zappa, do ya think I'd dig Zappa?
