Elfman was great in Oingo Boingo...but his work with movies is impeccable! I especially enjoyed the score for Pee Wee's Big Adventures! I think he HAD to be influenced by the music of Raymond Scott...another of my favorites. Check out this piece he did back in the 40's I believe...you'll recognize it INSTANTLY, as it's been used in MANY cartoons! ![]() | |

| I agree with Pink Floyd, though I'd recommend some songs that have a few lyrics but are nearly 90% instrumental. Songs such as "Echoes" or "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", parts 1-9. Those songs are about 23 minutes in length, each. Also "One of These Days" by Pink Floyd is great. It has one line in the very middle of the song, but other than that is 6 minutes of pure instrumentals. |

| Yeah, I definitely understand what this thread is talking about, music without lyrics offers something unique during a listen. Personally, I like to listen to jazz, classical, reggae, older rock and electronic which usually helps we unwind with a little MJ after a hectic day. Here are some of my favorite electronic "shoegazer" bands: Air - Alone In Kyoto - La Femme d'Argent - Talisman - Run - Sexy Boy Boards of Canada - Aquarius - Left Side Drive - Dayvan Cowboy Hammock (if you like explosions, you'll love these guys) - An Empty Field - Birds Flying In Sequence M83 - * - Teen Angst - Run Into Flowers |

| Tak Matsumoto. All of his stuff has a strong oriental theme which is very pleasent to listen to. He does a cover of Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing that is definitely worth checking out. |

| Sound Tribe Sector 9 is some good music with no lyrics, though sometimes the lead likes to talk at the beginning and end of songs. But it's very calm, flowing music, kind of like Explosions in the Sky but with a lighter tone.

| Eh, John Williams has a distinctive style. If you heard one Williams song, you've heard 'em all. Two more good ones are Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. Zimmer made the Roll Tide Hymn in Crimson Tide, Howard made the Unbreakable theme (while I thought the movie sucked, the music is really a work of art), and they're collaborating for the newest Batman movies. I think that game soundtracks are an untapped resource, really. I could suggest a few, though there's an easy one to find. The Castlevania Dungeon has some songs from the Dracula Perfect Battle selection, which are hard rock remade songs. |

| Try The String Quartet Tribute. It's a group of string musicians that cover whole albums of contemporary artists' work note for note. I discovered their Red Hot Chili Peppers album when I downloaded it by mistake on ruckus and I loved it. It's interesting to hear some of my favorite songs played entirely on strings. They have done many artists including AC/DC, The Beatles, The Doors, and many more. Check it out - The String Quartet Tribute - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
