Default The Saviors of Hip Hop?

Could these be the artists that finally inject some much needed intellect into the genre? Could they spell the end of this vapid, repetitive Little John bullshit? God, let's hope so.

Well, none of the three are exactly "new" artists, and none have achieved much commercial success. While popular in the underground, I don't see any of these artists replacing Kanye or 50 on the charts or MTV anytime soon. I'm not saying that they are untalanted by any means, but they've been around for quite some time, and if they were going to "end" commerical rap like lil Jon and whatnot, they would have done so by now.

True, these guys have been around for a while without much success with the mainstream audience, but I think a lot of that has to do with a lack of exposure. My hope is that, as more people are exposed to these artists, as music consumers begin to realize that there are artists who have an intelligent message to bring to the table rather than just "we in da club, we gettin' drunk", they will begin to embrace these intelligent artists and the Lil Waynes and 50 Cents of the world will be seen for the ignorant, corporate puppets they are.

Hip-hop has always come from a place of disillusionment; it speaks to a fan base that feels neglected and oppressed by the rest of society. I feel that artist like Immortal Technique speak directly about that disillusionment, bringing it to the forefront rather than overcompensating with cars and bling and women. I encourage anyone who is a hip hop fan to listen to their favorite mainstream, MTV rapper, then listen to these songs and tell me which speaks most directly to you.

All good songs there. Aesop's new cd is off the chain, the production is so wild. I agree with TM on this one. Only true hiphop heads know that this stuff even exists. Your 16 year old high school chick isnt going to be deciphering lyrics for content, she just wants to shake that azz.
