Well, no need for the Vaseline just yet Smasher. Plainsman effectively shot down the argument as throughly as I could. However, it did inspire me to read my own state's Constitution in regards to guns, and came up with this:
Quote:
“The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state shall not be denied.”
Article VI, Section 24 of the South Dakota Constitution

therefore, I have the right to defend myself and my state...AS A CITIZEN, with absolutely no mention of any militia

. As far as the 2nd Amendment goes, if it were to only mean an organized militia, why would it say the PEOPLE'S right to keep and bear arms shall not infringed? AS a citzen of the US, I have the right to firearms ownership, and i excercise that right daily. I own several firearms, and I'll be damned if anuyone is going to tell me I have to be part of a militia to do so. The ultimate purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to ensure the right of the people to forcibly revolt or defend themselves against the govt if ever needed. An unarmed citizenry is an easy target....Just ask the Jews in Nazi Germany. Guess who happened to be one the staunchest gun control advocates in history? Yup...Adolf was a big fan of making sure those he wished to conquer were unarmed and unable to fight back.

There are alot of things that I like about Ron Paul, but I don't know if a Republican is what we need at this point in time, I would have loved to see him in the presidency 8 years ago, but right now I think we need someone who is willing to raise taxes and make progress in getting out of this deficit.
Wouldn't the cutbacks and shit Paul is talking about effectively do this without raising taxes?

Quote:
"A well regulated Militia" tm are you in A well regulated Militia? if not then you dont actually have the right to bear arms... you have to read the whole scentence
I think you're the one who needs to read the whole sentence.

Quote:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
It's not saying you have to be in a militia, just that if the need for one arises, the people should very well be armed, right. And last I checked it was extremely hard to make shit like that in the quantities you'd need in such a short amount of time. Best to already have it, that way time can be better spent preparing for battle/invasion whatever.

He would abolish the income tax and the IRS. As well as a whole bunch of other government offices.

You want to see a sea change occur in this country? Elect some independents (or independent thinkers) that believe in and follow the constitution. Most folks wouldn't know what hit them.

Hurrican Katrina? Don't look to the federal government. Misuse of citizen taxes.

Tsunami? Our sympathies but no government handout. That would all be handled by the private sector or not handled at all.

Looking for universal health care? Not with Ron Paul. You're on your own.

He would save a shitload of money very very quickly.

As for Bloomberg? After stating categorically several times he is not going to run, even after tacking on "I will run for president if everybody else is dead" as a qualifier...If he does run, he's already gotten his first lie over with.

No vote from me.
