Default Generation Self!

I have noticed in my limited years (23) that more and more young people are exploring "the self." Whether it be, self education, self discovery, self expression, or even self medication. These up and coming, politicians, doctors, lawyers, artists, white collar workers, and blue collar workers are about strike a blow for the world of the righteous. They understand that by strengthening the self they can ultimately strengthen society as a whole. I can not wait for these people to start running things. Because, marijuana will be legal, taxed and regulated; hemp will be used for everything from bio-fuel to blankets; no one will go to jail for personal choices that effect only themselves; the USA will only attack those who attack us; you will no longer be pulled over for "driving while black or Hispanic" (oh it happens!); and the people of the United states of America will once again realize that YOU are the government. You make the choices that effect our country, not the administration.

I believe that the whole world is in a time of transition right now and soon we will be thrust into a second Renaissance. This will be a time a great change and realization for the world. People of the world will stop fighting over petty **** and focus on the thing that really matters...... LIFE and the quality of it.

I have faith that with work we are going to change the world for the better.
Though new to it, I have seen this change in the enlighten postings all over this forum.

Your thoughts?

I don’t believe it will be our generation (I’m about your age) that changes the world. If change is to come it will be the generation being born right now who will have to do it. Our generation is still caught up in the backlash of our forbearer’s past sins and ignorances. We came along in a time when the paradigm was constantly shifting around us, and I feel we failed to keep up.

We are in a time of transition, but remember renaissances like you envision usually only arises out of the decay of the old social order. The old social order isn’t dead yet, and its final death throes will be ugly to witness.

One of my favorite lines in the movie “Waking Life” is by the hitchhiker as he is walking through dudes dream.

“The world is facing the greatest problems it has ever seen, ever. So what ever you do don’t be bored.”

There are a lot of issues we are going to have to deal with, and deal with them we must if the next generation is to have a chance to bring about a world truly worth living in. We may not succeed in destroying the old order but we can help it along its merry way.

Despite how f*cked up the world looks right now, I still have hope for the future. I have hope because it is possible today for some 13 year old kid to create musical masterpieces that Bach would have flipped his wig if he had heard, just messing around with a computer. That gives me hope. Hope that the next generation is a generation of SOUND. Where we will finally learn to shut the hell up for a minute and listen: to each other, our hearts, our minds, nature, God. A generation of SOUND is what I hope for
