Smile The next evolution of man

Hey all long time no post.

I have started practicing meditation and it has opened my mind to an entire different view on all things that "exist". I personally feel that with such distractions as Internet, TV and the fact that we are constantly connected, that we have lost our ability for "inner focus" and "spiritual enlightenment".

This is not a religious discussion by any means, more of what I feel (and what I want to hear about your thoughts) as to the next evolutionary state of man.

My personal belief is that the human brain is the most powerful tool out there, and that we are only using it for the most basic of human functions. My personal belief is that man will learn to utilize more of their brain, which in term would evolve their perception of the world, their abilities and ultimately their spirit. Man will unlock secrets and abilities we have never known, and we will learn to use these to our advantage.

It is my belief that the next step in mans evolution is a spiritual one, what do you think?

I do not beleve this would be correct if you was talking about the past like or grandparents and so on. The teens we have now or no where near as spirtual as there elders. I think the future of say or grand kids the technolgy will be there life and they wont be bothered by christanity and other religions. You got to think about it seriosly look at today society because of technolgy compared to the early 1900's. Imagine what technolgy will be like 50 years from now. i personally couldnt imagine playing a video game or something from 2050 but its gonna be the shit im tell you that much.

i could not agree with you more.
i was high off my ass the other night and was thinking about the exact same thing.
there's so many people today that rely on technology to get them through the day.
(not going to lie, i'm probably one of them)
texting someone, checking your email or facebook... sitting in front of the TV...
although technology does make things more convenient...
i think it takes away from being human...
maybe i'll just start calling people, and reading books instead

and the whole brain part you said is pretty much why i got into psychedelics.

I believe people, in general, are spiritual.

Every culture since the dawn of time has believed in some kind of higher power, some thing divine, some example by which to guide our every day behavior, some ideal personage to which we aspire, some protective, nurturing, parent-like deity who guides us on our journey through life.

Will it be Zeus, Quetzalcoatl, God, Nature, Bob, or whatever, I don't know. But I do know that when we lose this concept of the divine, when we no longer have something to which to aspire, when we no longer value life, when we no longer find something bigger than any one of us, we're in big trouble.

I disagree. I think that once we stop thinking of supreme beings and start caring more about advancing the human race, we'll forget what it's like to pray to a God and worship a God-like being. So we begin to create life and care more about sustaining the life we created than we do our own lives. Does that make us Gods?

I agree with you that the human mind is incredibly powerful and we do have the potential to achieve what you speak of, but you pointed out why this isn't going to happen in your own post. As technology increases, we are required to put forth less and less effort to accomplish our goals, and thus use our minds less and less. The trend is overwhelmingly headed in that direction. If such is the case, what makes you think we're going to stray from that trend?

Biotechnology is the future. Computers and man will one day be one.

How? Maybe if we lose something to aspire to then we're in trouble, but we don't need divinity or something "bigger than us" to progress.

The reason we aspire to be better is a desire to approach the divine. Divine, as in the supremely good, the perfect, like Plato's ideal forms, like better than the mundane human, like ... you know what never mind ... I don't have the energy to explain right now.
