| I was just reading a thread on dreams and it got me thinking...Is there really a distinction between reality and dreams? If we could somehow have lucid dreams every night, then we could esentially wake when we sleep and sleep when we wake. A lucid dream is a dream that you have complete control over. So that would mean your lucid life would be completely controled by your deepest thoughts. And maybe that means you could achieve true happiness in these dreams... But then how could you learn in these dreams? If you lived in a reality that was completely fabricated from previous experiences you couldn't really expierence anything entirly new, unless you have quite an immagination.. |

| Hey there Entity, seems like nobody's got a hold of this thread, so I guess I'll post some thoughts. I won't go overboard right now (it's late and I'm sleepy) but I will say this, there is an ancient Chinese philosopher (was it Confusio? I don't know, don't really think so...) that said "tonight I dreamt I was a butterfly with beautiful wings soaring up to the sky, and now that I am awake, I don't know if I'm a butterfly dreaming I am a man". It's very deep, it always gets to me (mind you, the words aren't exactly like that, but it goes something like it) and reminds me that everything might not be what it seems ![]() I'll post some more stuff here later on, but for now, I'm gone! ![]() Peace.7L

| "Last night I dreamed of being a butterfly. I did the things that butterflies do and I liked the things that butterflies like and I had no recollection of being a human. And this morning I am not sure if I am a man who has dreamed of being a butterfly, or a butterfly who is dreaming of being a man." I think it was a monk named baso not confucious, I could be wrong though. Vanilla Sky is a good paradigm for some of the ideas around lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is truly another world, your world. However it only lasts as long as your REM sleep lasts. However as you get more familiar with lucid dreaming it is easier to control the dreams and all aspects. Therefore you can change time and space in the dream and slow down "earth time" in your dream, some drugs can have this effect when you are awake also(But thats not a good thing when you are awake). Sometimes its nice to let your subconcious write the script though. Some great information on lucid dreaming: http://www.erowid.org/spirit/dreaming/dreaming.shtml |

| i got this with google Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly...Suddenly I awoke...Now, I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming that I am a man. -Chuang-Tzu well, whatever the specifics are, it sounds terrific.

| Our physical reality is just our middle-ground. We could literally live in the fantasy worlds we see in movies or think of ourselves and have the best lives ever, but our society does not revolve around things like this so therefore we are not very evolved in things like this. |

| Scientists have barely begun to delve in the mysteries of the brain. We still don’t know how exactly a person actually thinks, much less dream. All they see is the release of chemicals and the firing of synapses, but that is just the tip of a great iceberg. The brain is a very powerful thing; through it spawns one of humanities greatest allies, and also greatest enemies, the mind. The human conscience is limitless in potential, able to create, destroy, love, and hate, and yet remains encased in a skull. Dreams are simply the mind processing without the aid of any senses to the outside world. It is the mind by itself, just you and your thoughts. Freud, I believe, thought that dreams were spawn of subconscious memories and feelings, rising through the mist of normal thought processes you have when you’re awake. Some believe dreams are the gateways to the past. Some believe that dreams can tell you what is to come. Some believe dreams are our deepest most desperate desires and feelings, coming out because the gate of consciousness is down. I believe dreams can be all of those things, but mostly I believe it is our mind without our senses. Being free to act on its own without the restrictions of sight, sound, taste, touch and dreams are when the mind is at it’s most creative. After smoking weed, I find my dreams to be the most vivid and the most interesting. I find that I don’t want to wake up because they are just so interesting. After alcohol, I find I don’t even remember if I dreamt, which leads me to believe that weed enhances those chemicals or synapses that make you more creative.

| I fully agree with your post StewScum. Smoking weed and dreaming can be very interesting. What amazes me about the human mind is that i can learn thing in a dream, that I hadn't known before. |
