| I've developed an interesting theory and decided to share it with others to get feedback and comments on it. Without further ado... As you read this text you are recieving information, we all agree on this. This theory proposes that the text is not the actual information or idea, it is merely the mode of transmission for said information/ideas. In the same light, physical objects/matter are means of expression of an idea or Form and not the idea and Form itself. To put this in other terms, if you were to print what I have written, is the idea on the paper? Of course not. Ink is on the paper. Words that letters form are the symbols we have agreed upon to convey particular ideas. The same goes for any mode of communication. Speech for instance is a means of vocally conveying ideas from a plethora of different words. Consider art. Art is the act of impressing an idea upon matter. Therefore, matter becomes the mode of transmission for an idea that lies elsewhere. Consider that the words you form when you speak approximate or indicate your feelings and thoughts, but are separate from and totally different from them. Therefore, there is a gap between your thoughts and your expressions of them. When you speak, do you ever know for sure how you will end a sentence or how you form the words? Much in the same way, you create and maintain a physical environment to transmit/express an idea or feeling. With your every thought and desire, you mold your physical environment to convey an idea. This is the precise reason why examining a person's bedroom gives you an idea or impression of that person. This is a diffferent way of saying that we all have the power to manifest our thoughts physically and do so on a regular basis. Your thoughts, your ideas also mold your physical body. The idea remains invisible and yet it is percieved through physical means. Comments? |

| I totally get what you are trying to say Arise. I know that feeling because that is exactly what thought is, feelings. We do not think in words, although many people believe the contrary and will swear by it, we have always thought through emotions. We feel things, ideas, situations, etc., and that is why we have 5 senses, to percieve the world. We feel the air, taste the water, look at the rainbow, hear the stream and smell the fresh air; nothing in this are words. We just created language because it has been the easiest way to communicate, and it can be linked with two (minority) senses. One hears the spoken words and one can also read them (audio and vision), and even if you were blind, you could still "feel" the words (braille). So you see, we have only introduced language into our world because it made things easier and because humans always tend to do things the easy way, we have not developed any new means of communication and have stuck with spoken or written word. Remember, we are not born with the ability to talk or write, we are taught these things, and the more specialized we become at this, the more "mind abilities" we lose, in my opinion. Why?, because we need to make a huge effort to "translate" our thoughts into words, energy that could be spent on more ideas. If we could use less energy to communicate, I believe that our mind's power would suffer a huge increase, and who knows what we would be capable of then. Maybe we could "see" emotions, as Isaac Asimov so clearly depicts it in his science fiction novel "The Foundation", and we could communicate by just "sensing" another's emotions. Please note that we already communicate through these "unspoken words". When you see that someone is sitting alone in a party, all "closed in" (arms crossed, slouching, kind of "dark faced"), you can "feel" that the person can be depressed or angry or is going through a rough time. You think this, but you don't actually say to yourself "hey, that guy has his arms crossed, he's alone.... yep, he's depressed", you just feel him, you know what I'm saying? Another thing I would like to add is that I do believe that emotions are highly contagious. Most of the time, to put the simplest of examples, when you're in a crowd, even a small one, and some people around you start laughing, very contently, you start to feel like laughing, eventhough you might not really now what's going on. So, as I said earlier, if we actually "feel" our thoughts, then why can't thoughts alone be contagious? Something to think about... Peace.7L

| I was going to post a list of good quotes on the topic of words, buy my friend is borrowing the book, so I'll just try to summarize the main point. Words are unimportant. The confusion and trouble in this world are the cause of words. Whether deliberatly chosen, or simply mistaken or taken out of context, as humans, we take words for their meaning -- a meaning which we gave to the word. Language is a ball of redundancy and confusion. The book states it much clearer, though. Actions are infantly more important than words. Although words seem to make things easer some times...bah! |

| You should read into the sociological theory of symbolic interaction-ism. It is related to some of what youve said.
