| Stranger in a Strange Land was a good book, so was The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Anyway, time is theoretical, reality is theoretical, exsistence is even theoretical. We can only guess about these types of things. We have no proof that we exsist, we have no proof there is time, we have no proof that coca cola is better than pepsi, even though I think it is. Still though, it is good to have theories about these sort of things. My theory about time is that it is multi-dimentional but that we are usually only going one way through it. Think about it, when you speed up, time slows down. That would imply that there are two active time dimentions. Since people are mostly all going different speeds and such there are infinite dimentions of time. I am a strog supporter of string theory when it comes to physics. Either way, I think I am going to have to try that speed up my mind thing, oh wait, here it goes, ahh crap, didn't work. ![]()

| When you speed up, your time appears to slow down to the observer who is not moving fast. Time stays the same for you, and it appears to speed up on the ground. This is because the speed of light stays the same, no matter how fast you are moving. If you are moving 99.9% the speed of light relative to the earth, any photon you observe is still going 3.0x10^8 m/s faster than you. But to an observer on the earth, you are going almost the same speed as a photon they observe. This is called special relativity, I think. |

| Wow, how many physicists are there on this board? I will put my hand up as one, if there are others please say so, it might show how people of a similar state of mind migrate to this same thought outlet. Yeah special and general relativity is not too difficult to cope with, it just prevents you from breaching the light barrier and existing everywhere. BUT the interesting thing that I wished to comment on is our perception of time. Whilst high the other day I noticed how I percieve time to be slower, but I really think it was my mind working faster. I believe perception of the current time is really to do with your short term memory. The more memories you have in a certain space of time, the slower time appears to pass. My mind seems to count in recollectable memories rather than seconds. And memory works with novelty, the more interesting a memory, the better it will be remembered, so this accounts for the car accident, where every millisecond is incredibly interesting, as it could spell your death. But how would it account for 'time flies when you're having fun'? I have my ideas, but please post yours. JJBongalong. |

| Quantum physics will shake the very foundation of what is "physics" as we know it in the near to soon future. Exciting times ![]() Anyone seen "What the $*%& Do We Know?"

| I really don't think quantum physics is that puzzling- I imagine every tiny particle vibrating across near-infinite space, and the wave function given by where it is likely to exist, if you average it out to macroscopic size, everything appears normal, so why worry? Only tiny quantities will seriously be affected. JJBongalong |
