i was trippin the other night and i was thinking bout somethin that was mentioned in a past thread. Someone said that we would terraform other planets in years to come as our technology increased etc and that we would find other intelligent life, but what if we (as in humans on earth) where the only life in this universe as we are the start of everything that is yet to come. what if there is aliens etc but only in years to come after humans have learnt how to travel through galaxies and evolve in different climates and conditions. what if earth "is" where life first started, and is the first stepping stones to everything that will happen inthe future. because what ever happens will have to have started somewhere, so what if we were it. everyone believes that we cant be the only life in this universe, but why not? And maybe we will reach the end of the universe in zillions of years and then find the meaning of why we are all here... anyway i was stoned and weed usually has this affect on ya, u all know otherwise u wouldnt be readin this.

That's an interesting theory. It makes sense. But will life on other planets be biological? I don't think so. I've thought, where is the earth heading. Ever-increasingly, machines are dominating our lives. Think about how many devices and gadgets were in the average house 50 years ago, and compare that with your house today. Then think about what it will be like 50 years from now. I think the machines will eventually become the dominant "life form" on this planet. Machines were the first on Mars, and have gone millions of miles into the galaxy farther than humans. They are capable of surviving in extremely hostile conditions, so it's reasonable to assume they'll be the first life to colonize and terraform other planets. What if, one day, we (or the machines) figure out the secret of life. How to make a bunch of matter *think* and want to replicate itself. That would be something. Life, real life, could then reasonably exist on any planet out there. Somewhat unrelated, but also interesting to ponder: I think that aliens are highly evolved humans who've figured out time travel.

| That is interesting to say the least but there are many more theories out there which even though they may be a little more far fetched they are just as plausible simply because none of them have been proven yet. What if we are just a sub-species? Could we be the spawn of aliens or a project being held by aliens. I believe in god and all but I also believe that anything is possible. You are right though. We could be the beginning of life. What make you wonder even more is: What if we were the origin of all life in the universe but instead of being created on Earth we were created on another planet and some how got here? Maybe we created technology extremely advanced, compared to our current technology, and sent a small group of test subjects to this planet. Then they created a culture for us by slowly introducing new things. Maybe they even put people on multiple planets to see how each one's technology and culture would advance? The possibilities are endless along with all the things that could yet happen in the history of the universe. Just think about it after you .

Mars used to be a lot like earth. It had liquid water, plants, minor animals, and even oceans with like I said, minor wildlife. Venus is a little more unforgiving. It has a surface temperature of 460 F. Not because it is close to the sun but because of all of the volcanic activity. The clouds are sulfuric acid. Even if we landed on Venus we don't have anything that can withstand 450 F along with sulfuric acid rain. The surface has constant volcanic activity along with Venus-quakes. There is no way that we currently have to colonize Venus. What few satellites that we have landed on Venus only last about 5 min. before the acid and heat got to them. If you like science fiction and want a possible look at what Venus might look like get the book Venus by Ben Bova. He is a fairly good writer and has some interesting ideas.

Well, yes, of course. I was talking about in the distant future. Perhaps billions of years ago life started on Mars, moved to the Earth, and will eventually move to Venus. Mercury will probably be engulfed in the sun by then, but what if it's our destiny to somehow take life to the sun?

Maybe we create suits and materials that don't only absorb the heat but turn the radiation given off into energy for us to use. It is unlikely but a good thought.

That would be a very efficient space suit. Unfortunately, to make something like that you would have to somewhat defy the laws of thermodynamics. The suit and its environment would not be at equilibrium, so it would actually take energy to keep the suit cool. Hmmm... unless you used the radiation absorbed by the suit to power some sort of cooling unit. So it could work.

That's exactly what I meant. If you could not just transform the energy but convert it into a type of energy and enough of it to power a cooling system it might be possible. The suit would have to rely on outside sensors because I am pretty sure that there isn't much out there that could block the radiation that you could see through. It would be a neat thing to have on hand. Imagine it, the ability to colonize the sun. ![]()
