I think you just misunderstood me. You can enjoy both silence and music. Just one at a time. Things aren't so black and white.

Hi - I (sort of) agree, and I reckon that there is a set of 'jewels' for a happy life. Silence - I am the sort of person who mostly listens and only speaks when I really feel it is appropriate, and in keeping with the social situation. I have 'acquaintances' who talk crap a lot of the time, and I think that comfortable silences are worth so much more. Music- I like music, many kinds, but i find that I really like the more simplistic sorts of music. I find I am mostly into decent hiphop, which seems to become a simple-easy to follow beat and clever, but easy to follow rhymes. Time- OK Only since recently have I thought about time as not a continuous flow of moments. As a Maths and Physics student I feel the need for a simple model of time, which is for the most part, accurately modelled as a continuous variable through which we move according to our relative velocity. However since tonight I have rethought this. (I am not high, just a bit drunk, I was more drunk at the time) I was watching a show on TV which I hadn't seen before, and at one point I thought "wouldn't it be funny if this girl did a wheelie on the bike and drove off", and then in the show she did. I know that the writers may have had a similar sense of humor to me, and that they may have also thought "wouldn't it be funny if this girl did a wheelie on the bike and drove off". However I had this idea (it felt more like a premonition) some minutes before it occurred. Also while I was stoned a week or so ago, I was in a friend's bedroom with a bong, and I said to the guys, "OK I am going to bed in 15 mins, because I am knackered." Then I took a look at the clock on my friend's computer and it said 13:04. I thought to myself: "wouldn't it be strange if that clock didn't ever change and I would be forced to stay here and bong a few more times." Then I looked at the clock a minute later and it still said 13:04. I thought my head was a bit ****ed, so I gave it some more time. A good half hour passed before I got so paranoid that I had to ask someone what time it was- apparantly the computer had frozen the minute I had checked it, and I HAD been forced to bong again and again. I know how coincidental these situations may seem, however I felt so strange in the way that I had actually predicted the future. After reading a few books about the brain and the mind, I realise how we try to predict the future from previous experiences, like a tennis player starting to intercepting a serve, seconds before the ball is first struck. This may be an explanation, but I consider the possibility of deeper senses, such as another perception of time. What do u lot think? JJBongalong.

Hehe, I'm just messing with you dood, I really believe in what you are saying. I have had those same experiences, over and over again, and I think I can "control" that to a certain degree. The first times I had those "premonitions" where when I was about 12 years old. I kinda see the things in my head (or more precisely, I feel them) in a strange way. Sometimes I have many "feelings" and I have to decide which ones are the "real" ones (as in: "which of these 'pictures' are false".... or something like that). It is very cool, and I think I can switch my mind to that "mode" when I want. I just concentrate and clear my mind, and the things start popping up (off course, only of what I want to predict, it's not like images from a very distant future come to mind). Anyways, I don't like to call it "prediction", because that word usually means big stuff (like wars, and society...)that will happen some time in the somewhat distant future. What happens to me is very much like the "girl on the bike" incident that occurred to you. i think "purple elephant", and I kinda let that thought flow, and the next thing I know, I see a purple elephant (not in reality off course, and I know what many of you will say: "dude, what have you been smoking!?). I like to cal it "heightened intuition". Maybe you would like to check out this thread: "Reading minds" http://www.marijuana.com/420/showthread.php?t=32758 (sorry for not linking it, I usually use quick reply and can't add the link; I don't know the commands to do it... yet)(just copy-paste on the address bar) Peace.7L | |

Thanks for the reply and the links, that was a really interesting thread about reading minds and psychokinesis etc. I don't have any weed or money at the moment, so I can't yet try any of these things out, but I really want to explore my mind. I remembered another thought I had a while ago about 'time'. Whilst stoned, I hit on the idea that our sober brain may process input much slower than when we are high. This might (along with release of endorphins etc.) account for things seeming funnier, as we can quickly analyse and 'get' the joke. I have tried to quantify this in the past by using a stopwatch and testing my perception of time. I started the timer (without looking) and then counted 10 seconds and then pressed stop (still not looking). Then I checked the time, and repeated the test 5 times to take a more accurate average. The first session I did it my 10 seconds came out as 5.6 seconds. If my mind was working faster than usual I would expect this (time would pass quickly for an observer). The second session, however, I came out as an average of 10.2 seconds. Perhaps I was not in the same state as the first time. This is quite a huge difference, and if the results were due to classical physical symptoms of the weed I would expect a longer time (slowed thought / slowed reactions). I haven't tried the experiment sober yet, give me a second.... 10.3 , 9.9 , 9.9 , 10.3 , 10.0 Average = 10.08 seconds. That's fairly accurate time keeping by my sober brain. Please try this for yourself, doing it sober and stoned, then post your results here. Cheers. JJBongalong

Interesting thing you say there Jj... although I must add that your aproximation to the 10 seconds (After the first stoned try) could just be yourself getting accustumed to how fast (or slow) you are counting the time (thus, you adjust how fast or slow you count the ten seconds, be it consciously or unconsciously) I suggest one thing (I have no weed now, so I can't do it yet). Instead of counting 10 seconds, and then stopping to see how close (or far) you are from the "real" 10 seconds, do the following: Start the watch - count 10 seconds - stop the watch - start the watch - count 10 again - stop the watch - and on and on until you do it 6 times (one minute). Then, see how close you were to the minute, instead of the 10 seconds (off course, never look at the watch after you started it the first time, just look at it when you are done). Peace.7L

An interesting idea 7L, I think I will try it that way, next chance I get. As for getting accustomed to my own timing, I don't think it was the case, as I consistently got around 5.6 seconds the 1st time, and then consistenly around 10 next time. I reckon I was just in a different frame of mind for both, you know how every smoke doesn't feel the same? The only flaw that I could think of in you method would be that I might miss the button on the stopwatch or it might not work on one of the 10 sec trials, so would seriously affect the results. This could be overcome by practising the whole minute test several times. I would love to see in you head 7L, so many ideas considered and tried, I feel like a complete beginner in the world of my own inner space. JJBongalong.

My bad, I can see now more clearly what your point is, although I would consider the minute test rather than the 10 seconds. I don't know why, but it just seems more "accurate" to me (maybe because we will not be constantly interrupted by noting how close we were every ten seconds, and also because when we do the first 10, stop, see how close we were, and then start the process again we can be affecting our judgment/timing/actions/etc. That's my theory, anyways...)
