Out of depression or self pity though? Never
Out of Depression...hell yeah... I've been down that rabbit hole a long way and that abyss is not a pleasant place.

Medication, the love of Papa Budz, the Pooch -- and I have to say Pot have helped me fight those demons when they arise.

Winston Churchill referred to depression as the large black dog...to me it would be a cat (I love dogs too much Winnie) but the shadow is always there.

By the way, interesting statistic -- Untreated depression is the leading cause of suicide...the 2nd is treated depression. With statistics like that it's hard not to have contemplated the act of ending "it" all when you live with this mindset.

On that note -- a mention of the passing of a great journalist -- Hunter S. "GONZO" Thompson, who killed himself by bullet shot at the age of 62 last Sunday.

On another aspect of this -- what would you be willing to kill yourself for? Your country? Your family? Interesting queries here...and oh yes, the picture of the family pet...NOT a cat:

Thompson was, at the least, entertaining as hell.

Life is our friend, but also our foe
It's purpose for staying? I wish I could know
It loves giving us hope and then leaving a void
Confusing us with theories, like those of Freud
It's there when we sleep and when we awake
But is it there just for us, or just for its own sake?
Death is straight-forward, you know what you're getting
With Life you make choices you're oft left regretting
As harsh as Life is, we can't get enough of it
At the times that matter, we realize we love it
So Death, stay away, just give me some time
To remember my life, how it was in its prime

I wrote this on the assumption that death leads too nothing. Now I wouldn't be so arrogant to assume for certain.

nice poem mate.

I reckon there is no after life. It's hard to think there is this feeling of nothing isn't it. Remember what it was like when you were 2 years old? no, you can't, it's probably like that, you die and you just forget your existence. It's not even forgetting cause there is no feeling at all

Depression is tough. I've been through it. With such a strong psychological disorder, a lot of people don't really have a "choice". I mean, they do have a choice to not kill themselves, but something in their psyche makes them believe suicide is the only way out.

"I wonder if anyone would even notice I'm gone."

At the same time, a part of me is contradicted-- for some, depression is a very arrogant disease. You're constantly ruminating about yourself, so it's hard to be social or participate in any other sort of engaging activity. I have very little sympathy for those who are constantly "woe is me". Activate Participate Solvate run go jump DO but don't ruminate.

i totally agree with u there man, i believe that everyones death is different, i believe ur happy in ur own way see ur relatives or whatever it is that happens. but i also think that maybe when u become the "god" of this new world. in the movies when someone dies u see them usually walking by themself through a field of luscious grass and beautiful trees and lakes etc, what if it was true and u were the new creator of this world and had to start from scratch and create things to exist and balance, thus being ur perfect eternal happiness as U r the one who creates it

The last movie my grandma saw was Scary Movie 3, with me... sorry grandma.
But when she was on her deathbed I played and sang Let it Be for her (because it was programmed in the keyboard) and she said "Where ever I'm going, I hope they sing as good as you." Well, I watched her die, and when it finally happened, I heard "Let it Be", clear as day in my mind. Wow.

RIP Grandma

MAMA!!! YOU HAVE A BOXER!!! We are proudly owned by a flashy fawn boy named Clint. Now back on topic, I don't think I would ever kill myself. I suffered from depression before and even contemplated it in my teens, but quite frankly I think my fear of death at that age kept me from doing anything. Now I live for my children (and my doggies) and couldn't imagine being selfish enough to put them through that. I would however die in a second for my children.

That's very hard to answer and it brings to mind another question. Would it be selfish to give your life for someone in your family who really loves you, like your parents, since they would be left wishing it was the other way around?

Now, in principle, I would say that I would give my life for a lot of people, but to actually be the one to kill myself, I'm not so sure. I really don't know for sure, and have no way of knowing if I can kill myself. Know what I mean?
