| i was watching south park last night and they had an awesome idea on it of how humans etc where created. apparantly humans and animals all existed on their own planets eg. a planet of lions, a planet of spiders, planet of humans, etc. so each species of earths creatures originated from their own sub planets. it also stated that "aliens" took species form each planet and chuked it on earth and its how we exist today, the aliens did this because earth is really a reality tv program for them and they just watch us for entertainment ha ha. well it sounded pretty good, apart form the reality tv show. there would be problems with this as "how could they survive on thier wn planets with out other **** to balance it out?" eg decomposers, ect. anyway peace out..

| I AM NOT A RACIST... but I thought years ago how asians might have come from cats... Well? I just can't think of what the other races came from now, but that doesn't mean I hate asians! I love them!

| Unfortunately, that theory doesn't fit with what we know of evolution. If different ethnicities came from different animals, there would be vast differences in them. But that's why I say ethnicities and not "races" -- because we are all the same race, all the same species. It is impossible for different avenues of evolution to lead to the same result. The only way that would be possible, is if there were some "ideal" species that evolution was working towards, however homo sapien is far from ideal. As an example, look at our respiratory system. Unlike other animals, human's respiratory system drains inward. This is part of the reason why humans have such nasty respiratory diseases, that generally don't affect other animals to nearly the extent it does us. Perhaps this is because our respiratory system has been developing for a long time, yet only recently (within the last couple ten thousand years?) became upright. Regardless, humanity is far from perfect. And yet, humans from one side of the globe to other really aren't that different, except for minor variations such as skin/hair color, complexion, facial features, and of course the higher attributes of society such as language, dialect, etc. Every single person on this planet has wayyyyyy more in common with a primate than it does with a feline, making it very very likely that ALL of us came through the same line of evolution. Basically, an extremely large quantity of common inherited traits indicates common ancestry. Now, I suppose they could be "branches" of the same tree, that split off at some point. The most likely explanation is that the source of the minor variations between ethnicities is due to the climate/environment/other factors of whatever locale that ethnicity developed in... however I suppose one could suggest that perhaps one of the mostly-primate not-quite-human-yet ancestors of ours, at one point decided to interbreed with a feline, causing feline traits to appear and the Asian ethnicity to be born. Unfortunately, species generally don't interbreed (with a few exceptions, like every other rule you try to make about the universe). Certainly a "semi-intelligent" or "developing intelligence" like a protohuman is unlikely to breed with a relatively unevolved (compared to homo sapien) feline specimen. I dunno, what does everybody else think? =) Interesting topic, to say the least. =)

| Okay, I should have mentioned that I don't really believe races come from different animals. |

| Ethnicity and race are not scientific terms, they are sociological terms (for example, people in South America would not call a black person in the U.S. as someone who is black, only people from Africa are called black people; as well, a black person in South America can be white if they have enough money, as the saying goes: money lightens). And how you get differences in humans is all based on location. For example, Eskimos are stocky and short not because they are some different species, but because the climate they live in changes things about them, adapatation if you will. Same goes for Mexicans, who live in dry, arid places. As well, this applies to Africans and Europeans. Different muscle structures, hair, lips, noses, bone structure, all has to do with where a certain people grow up. With people from different locations mixing with other people though, these traits are intertwined and as you go down the line they disappear.

| This is a bit off topic but since we are on the subject of races and ethnicity... I believe in time there will be no races, and to be quite honest I'm sad to say I will never see that day come. My children are Korean, and Italian. It's funny how strong the Korean is in them, but I also know that Asians of the past and even many of today strongly discourage the partnering of asians with non-asian making their traits much more dominate. I think the most beautiful babies are those that are a mix of "races".

| *shrug* There never was a "pure" race of anything. Like I said, it's a socially constructed term, it's sociological not scientific. You are conditioned of course to think there are races. |

| You are conditioned of course to think there are races. don't know about anyone else, but when I say races, I am speaking of groups of people, from similar regions, that share similar physical characteristics. I don't know a better word for it than race. Here are the the definitions I found of the word, seems pretty scientific to me. -race1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rs) n. -A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics. -A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race. -A genealogical line; a lineage. -Humans considered as a group. -Biology. An interbreeding, usually geographically isolated population of organisms differing from other populations of the same species in the frequency of hereditary traits. A race that has been given formal taxonomic recognition is known as a subspecies. -A breed or strain, as of domestic animals. -A distinguishing or characteristic quality, such as the flavor of a wine. It is quite obvious that people from Asia share similar physical characteristics, as do Africans, even my own "race" Italians. The only other word I could think to define it would be ethnicity however considering the technical definition eth·nic·i·ty ( P ) Pronunciation Key (th-ns-t) n. -Ethnic character, background, or affiliation. -An ethnic group. ,race definitely seems to fit better, and also seems to be the more scientific of the two. I agree with you that stereotypes regarding race are socially constructed, however race is a very real and in my opinion scientific thing. ![]() 2cents |

| There was also the South Park episode where the Americans from the future come, and they are all the same race, color-- no hair, all speak a mixture of languages, since the US is "the melting pot". Races converge from interaction between peoples of different ethnicities. Races diverge from separation for many years. When the original humans migrated across the globe, they became separated, and races developed. Was the original human race a single ethnicity of people? To me the threat to culture is not the mixing of races, but the mixing of cultures. Globalization may produce a single homogenous race/culture-- this is a nightmare, to me, since I think cultural diversity is good. |
