| Man is a species of hunter/gatherers as well as tool makers. Yet all we seek now are riches and wealth, power and comfort. Technology has made us weak and soft. Most of us have forgotten the ways of our ancestors. How to survive with nature. How to be comfortable living from the land. "When" something does happen, money, power and all we hold dear of our prize posessions will be worthless if you can't defend and feed yourself. We all have the technology as a race the "HUMAN" race, to wipe out much if not all life on earth. We also have the "arrogance" to do just that! Will "you" be able to survive, or will you be one of the many wealthy or comfortable people who told themselves "It won't happen"? Smokey |

| Aye. We as humans (especially us Americans... I can admit it) have become all but completely domesticated. I agree that the ever-hungry search for money, comfort, and more than anything- power, has lead to a modern race of people who cannot thrive in the world outside their own (by which I mean the urban life). Though, I would not place any blame on technology. Yes, we are dependent on it, but it's existence does not in any way force us to be so. We (the human race) have come to rely on it because we so chose it. Just my $0.02, cheers. |

| To address the title, I do think that the future will bring us to the past, in a sense. I am a true believer that what many reffer to armaggeddon and/or the coming of paradise, or whatever, will be our realization that we have goten used to doing things like so and so for too long a time. The shock of realizing that we need to focus on our "base skills", for lack of a better concept, and that we have not done so in so long a time, will be this "End of Days" that some religions talk about. | My family and I will survive. Kind of like the song "A Country Boy Can Survive". The area we live in is a rural area that has some nasty weather. We are ready at all times to go weeks without power, shopping, water, fuel etc. We also have a big supply of ammunition and guns for hunting or protection or both. Many of the people in this area are prepared in the same way. The older people that don't have supplies know that they can count on friends or neighbors to help out. Then like all areas there are the people that even if the good times wouldn't be able to survive without depending on someone else. I believe NNY would be among some of the last survivors and there are other areas across the country that would also. |

| Of course, the past will always repeat itself. It is inevitable that no matter what we do, we always end up making the same mistakes, repeating the same scenarios in our lives. It takes a great deal of concentration to break out of the repeating cycle that our temperament has set for us.

For example, I just got my parents to switch to Green Power, provided by ConEdison. Now we're paying for only wind, tidal, solar, and run-of-the-river hydro power. None of the nasty shit. It costs only a few cents more than the general grid, and it doesn't make you feel guilty when you flip on the switch. That combined with our fluorescent light bulbs makes me feel a heck of a lot better about consuming electricity.

| What The Bleep Do We Know is a fantastic movie. I love it. I love quantum physics. The major reason I desire to arm myself in any fashion is really due to pondering how things would be if our society fell such as is being discussed. I want to be able to defend myself and my family if need be. So far I do not own a gun but I do have arms of an older variety. I like to collect weapons but whenever I make a purchase I make sure functionality is a main quality of what I get. None of those knives/swords that are retarded looking elaborate pieces of metal that would break if actually used for more than one cut. I want to get myself a gun but so far have not taken the step towards doing so. It's usually a combination of thoughts like cost, safe storage (child on the way), my hatred for pussy ass gun usage to end a dispute by too many sally's in this society, and so on that make me hesitate till another day. |

That's what I was saying is the thought in the far back of my head that counts as a pro when considering gun ownership. I'm just pointing out that my situation that I'm talking about is the situation where peaceful resolution is not possible anymore. Feel free to still disagree of course. Like I said the cons have still out weighted the pros so far in life for me. I must say I still like the thought that I could hack a mother fucker in the head with my native american axe made by a true native american for me with colors of the tribe I have ancestory with if he broke in to my house with ill intent though. It amuses me. I just need to find a sword that I feel is quality enough to purchase as well so I can have samurai fantasies too. | |
