So I have this belief in the back of my mind that there is a definite reason as to why I am stupid enough to continue smoking weed. Not only do I know it's bad for me, but I feel like I become a philosopher and I start to see why everything happens for a reason. I get laughed at by all of my friends because I see it like this, but honestly I don't care. They do it to get stoned, by I feel like I do it for better reasons and that is why I don't find it as bad to do. Anyone else have views like this on weed or am I alone in this worldl?

Lady Toke, there is a negative and positive side to everything. There is nothing wrong with smoking marijuana as long as you don't abuse it. The great philosopher Aristitotle's motto was "everything in moderation and nothing in exess". Their is also nothing wrong with having philosophical ideas. Trust me, most people who smoke marijuana have these moments of enlightment after toking up and it's a great feeling. Your friends are just a bunch of dushbags. I know alot of stoners and I notice that some of them like to smoke to relax, meditate, ponder the meaning of life and have a good time. The others just smoke because it's illegal and they want to be cool and just want to act like idiots. They are the ones that give all of us a bad name. Try to just smoke with the first type. So my advice is to keep on toking, just be smart about it. If you stop you will be throwing away something really good for your spiritual well-being but if you abuse it you will miss the point and just smoke because it's a habit. Find the balance.

Everyone smokes for different reasons, and to say that one reason is better than another is completely up to opinion. So while I understand why you smoke and why you feel the way you do I don't agree that your reasons for smoking are better. From what you have said it seems that you are searching for some sort of justification as you mention you feel that continuing to smoke weed is, personally, a stupid choice. I think you need to accept different views of smoking weed, even your own views. You seem insecure about how you feel about marijuana, but thats just the feeling I got from your post. Your friends? Eh, if they smoke to get stoned thats fine for them and if they are going to make fun of you for your reasons then thats that. They should be more understanding about different reasons for smoking. I would be careful though when saying that one reason for smoking is "better" than another.

Why do I smoke weed? Because, quite simply, I enjoy it. I smoke weed for the same reason i listen to a certain kind of music, or watch a certain TV show, or why I eat pizza....I find it enjoyable, nothing more, nothing less. However, I don't think I'm damaging my health, nor do I believe I'm "stupid" to keep smoking. If I thought what I was doing was sabotaging my health or intelligence, I'd never take another puff. However, in my years of both using marijuana, and keeping up with the latest medical info about it, I've come to the conclusion that marijuana is FAR safer than many other things people injest daily without thougfht, like asprin, caffine, and CERTAINLY far safer than our two legalized "recreational" drugs alcohol and tobacco.

Ahhh Cannabis, that multipurpose and usefull plant. It certainly brings out enjoyment for a lot of things I do. But to the OP, I relate, I feel at times Cannabis lets me see the world for what it is.

I am on the same page with you about the philosophy part. I too have philisophical thoughts quite often when I smoke weed, sometimes, I wonder whether or not I am just thinking stupid stoner stuff, or maybe I really have came up with some great philosphy......... .. .this stuff confuses me...

Why do you imagine that smoking weed is a stupid thing to do? I've always found the positives to greatly outweigh the negatives.

Positives: fun, pleasure, sensory amplification, insight, relaxation, improved sleep quality, fellowship, imagination, pain relief, thinking "outside the box"

Negatives: cost, illegality

Bad for you in what way?

Many philosophers have gained insights from the use of marijuana and other mind-altering substances. There's nothing wrong with having a different POV than your friends.

You seem to assume that there's something wrong with getting stoned. Why? Human beings seem to have an innate urge to alter their consciousness. Every culture that has access to mind-altering substances has some that are socially approved and others that are not. The selection seems to be arbitrary.

It sounds like you need this philosopher thing to justify using marijuana because you think that it's bad to get high just for fun.

A lot of people feel guilty about their use of mind-altering substances and feel that they need to have a "higher purpose" to justify it.
