Default Red Ryder...

Was going thru some stored items up in my loft yesterday with my son,
and OMG, there it was.
My old Red Ryder that my Dad got for me when I was 8. What a flood of great memories: images of my Dad teaching me how to shoot bottles, cans, and all manner of inanimate objects.

We stopped, took it down, cleaned it and shot coke cans for a couple of hours. What a blast, and on Father's day no less.

Any of you guys still have yours? That one and only classic Red Ryder carbine that for so many of us was a real rite of passage...

Mine's stored away in my dad's overcrowded garage somewhere, but it's around

I never actually had a Red Ryder as a child. I don't know why, they just never appealed to me. I was always on the move myself, being pulled behind wasn't much fun in my adventurous child eyes. I mean, I might've 'had' one, but I dont have any memories of it...

I had this thing, it took me everywhere;

It has working pedals and a steering wheel. Wherever we happened to be living as a kid (we moved around a lot) I would take this thing out for a spin. She's a lil rusty and squeaky but she still works fine (not that I can fit in it now, haha). I plan on restoring her to let my niece use.

oh yeah. Joey was my nickname as a child, like a baby kangaroo.

LOL,
yea, but me thinks oft times the two go hand in hand. After all, once we started to get good at shooting we'd jump in our wagons and pretend we were the Cavalry come to save the day from those nasty redskins.
Yea, I know, we were brainwashed back in the day but "it's all over now, Baby Blue"...

I believe I threw it away when my father and I moved. No particular reason to keep it.

I do still have my first pistol and rifle, both .22's, from when I turned 8, and then my 9 from when I turned 10.

Ah, well I never had a Red Ryder BB gun either. I've never owned a gun. I 'had' one while I lived on an reservation in Montana but it was really my cousins, he just never used it. Killed many a lil' furry critter with that thing...

I don't think I've ever killed anything with a gun. I may have killed a deer, once. But I'm not sure.

How could you not be sure? Usually when you shoot at a deer you notice it either drop, or walk off. I'd assume you were just shooting random deer in the woods one day? lol

For the record, I mostly killed gophers in my grandmothers house. She had a HUGE lot and it was literally full of the things... It was like a gopher massacre in the summers. My cousins would throw firecrackers and improvised explosives into their holes and shit. Not a pretty sight. Those kids were really fucked in the head...
