| So the apartment complex where I live has a very steep hill at the entrance. It is not a really long hill nor a particularly high hill, per se, but it is very steep. Today, we had a storm come thru the area that was pouring rain down in freaking buckets. Of course the storm hit LITERALLY between 5 & 15 seconds of me getting into my car. If it weren't for the fact that I was only going across the street to a couple of places, I likely would have turned back to wait it out because of the rain. I am glad that I didn't! On my way home, as I was coming down the hill, I sort of saw something out of the corner of my eye that was on the side of the road. It was one of those deals where what you saw doesn't really register until after you are 3 or 4 seconds past it. What I realized that I had seen was a turtle (a big one) on the side of the road. The poor lil guy's head was facing up the hill. The problem was that the water was coming down so hard and so much was falling at once that it made this steep hill like a rushing rapid. So the poor guy had water just pouring all thru his shell. Everytime he tried to poke out his head and limbs to take a step off of the pavement and into the sanctuary of the grass, the water would pummel him and knock his legs out from underneathe him causing him to go back into his shell. Once I realized what I had seen, I went back up the hill. I think that the poor guy was going to drown. He just had no way of getting to safety. So, I scooped him up off of the pavement and set him down in a nice spot on the grass. It was still wet on the grass but there was no rushing water effect. He stayed in his shell for quite a while (no doubt because he was terrified that something as big as me had just picked him up) but once I left him alone he eventually got up and walked toward the woods near our pond. What I did was not at all challenging but it really felt great to do! Sadly, several other motorists drove right by this lil guy without even giving it a second thought. Anyhow, that was my cool moment for today! |

| Sweet dude ![]() It seems us tokers have a compassion for animals some lack. Perhaps it is our closeness with earth that gives us such an appreciation and respect for nature... ![]() I'm sure the lil' turtle was a happy camper and very appreciative! ![]()

| That is great!! You did a very good thing. I wish there were more people like you around, and Spiral for that matter. I know it's going to be sea turtle nesting time soon at the beach, and they close off the beach when it happens.

| Nice job! If you can excuse my veering slightly off-topic, I'm the same with all animals and insects. They don't bother me, I don't bother them. I've had to review this outlook since the huntsman I'd left roaming around my place dropped onto my head and climbed down the side of my face during an internet session. I gave bitch food, shelter, warmth and she attacks my fucking face? Relationship over. Those bastards go outside now.
