The other thread about whether you like hash or bud better made me wonder about this. Why do you think hash isn't as popular in the USA (well, I can only speak for where I live). Almost every one I know that has tried good hash (especially bubblehash etc.) really enjoys it. Do people just throw trimmings away and not make hash or do I just not know the right people. It just seems strange that hash isn't more prevalent. So, is hash readily available where you live?

The main source of the world's hashish is the middle east which is closer to europe, also I guess the DEA has fucked people well enough to let them know its better for them to stay out of the U.S. No hashish available in these parts of North Florida as far as I've seen, I so badly want to try it though, a big part of the urge would be the blue smoke.

It's not readily available where I live. You can get it if you look hard enough at the right times, but there isn't a whole lot of it around here.

I am fortunate as I do have access to hash, as of late. In fact, I'm getting some in a few days. I usually get it as a treat because I can't afford it all the time. I recently quit smoking cigarettes, so getting this hash is a small reward for myself.

I am considering buying the bubble bag system so I can make more myself (and therefore have it consistently) but i'm going to have to use bud because I don't have access to trimmings.

It's mainly because it takes a huge amount of trim and quite a bit of time/labor to use the bubblebags (I know, I've done it a few times w/a friend...) The amount of end product is usually not enough for the grower/maker to want to sell. It stays with those who make it!!

Much of the bud smoked in the USA is imported from Canada or Mexico (sadly) -- so if there is hash being made from those trimmings, we'll never see it. It's gonna be smoked by the people there.

Hash is more popular in Europe because it's available there in commercial quantities. The countries where it's made don't use what's left over after manicuring the buds. They use the whole plant. Considering the price of quality bud in the US, making hash out of it will earn less money than selling the bud, so there's no economic incentive to make hash on a commercial basis.

Is bud really that much more expensive here? I feel like people would pay for hash if it was more readily available.

In North Africa and Nepal, they grow acres and acres of weed to process into hash. It costs as much as it costs to grow it. In the US, an ounce of high quality weed costs $350. An ounce of high quality weed might produce 5 grams of hash. It would have to sell for $70 a gram to achieve cost parity, and that doesn't even account for the extra time and labor involved in converting it into hash.

Various different types of hash are available where I live, the most easily available being soap-bar, a very cheap, dirty hash made with plastic bags and shoe polish amongst other things. There is pollen, normal good hash and occasionaly we get soft black or charas hash.
