Nothing to be proud of.

You say that the janitor had his hands affected which in turn affected his face when he touched it. also his eyes. No where do you mention his mouth from eating the pizza. You also don't mention that there was pizza in the microwave. You say nothing to support your contention that he was eating your lunch.

You very possibly caused the janitor a great deal of pain for simply doing his job.
Doing his job? He ATE the pizza, he had to at least unwrap fresh (that day) pizza and touch the pizza itself. The policy is anything left over 3 days gets thrown out -- but NOT by janitors, staff themselves.

I wasn't sure to thank or groan your post so I decided to just respond instead. You make good points, very valid and logical.

However, you seem to have a grudge from day one against myself. Which I can't figure out. I think you do a great job as a Mod--very attentive and making good calls for thread-mergers and such.

So live and let live, and no--this isn't going to my head.

I'm just confused and in disbelief that so many people could carry on such an argument over such a trival matter as putting TWICE the ammount of hot sauce on the pizza that I would personally eat.

I in NO WAY wanted to really in my hearts-of-hearts want to make someone "Suffer". I wanted to place a "test" to find out who the thief was who was stealing not only my own but other's lunches as well.

As I have said before -- I will probably start bringing these "Hormel ComplEATs" now because they can fit in my desk drawer and don't need to be in the fridge. I only have to worry about plastic forks.

These cost a bit more than my left-overs from my dinner....and I feel upset/sick to my stomach that I can't trust other humans in my office to respect my right to house my food a day at most w/out it being stolen. Also, it's going to cost me more, and I feel that I shouldn't have to pay more and go out of my way to make sure my stuff isn't stolen. It's principle.

As Spiral and I agree on -- "An eye for an eye makes the world blind" - Ghandi ...this might have been started in my original post as an angry rant--but it turned out to be a more innocent way of finding out/keeping the thief from doing his work.

I'm tired of hearing co-workers ask "who stole my half eaten burger?" and having to listen to people tell me their gladware was stolen.

The management CANT do anything about it. I've complained (maybe I should have told everyone this earlier?)

Putting up cameras in the break room by myself isn't an option. That's probably worse than putting double the hot sauce i'd eat comfortably (i have a high tollerance) eat.

Yes, I feel bad he touched the pizza and his hand swelled up and he touched his eye/forehead before he realized it was hot.

He probably won't steal food anymore.

Case closed.

Amazing...

This has really blown up...oh my oh my...I wake up each morning to read 2 more pages of people arguing for/against me....

I've never, ever, in my years (like 7) of posting on any board created a thread that lasted 12+ pages--most of which aren't even my own posts!!!!
Yea, thats what i said a couple of pages ago.
Remember?
If not, here it is
( Made a little update on it though)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By the way this is a hot thread more than 115 posts & over 1200 views in less than 4 days!!!. Can't believe it's just over some heated, frozen, re-heated pizza and hot sauce.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that we all should just shut up and blaze up!

He(DD) did what he though that was the best to find out who the little culprit was.
And it's already done, no turning back and can't go back in time.

So if there is any consequences to this it'll be his fault and his fault only, Nobody else's fault.
And we are here arguing about something that we can't really do because it was already done.

Now let me ask you guys something--- What is the point?!

PEACE- that's all I need to say!!
AllenLG.

I know, I know, gross, but I just find it morally wrong someone would put something on food they know someone else will eat only for the reason to cause them any discomfort as a deterrent or otherwise.

I just don't like seeing people suffer. I'd confront the person. Maybe he's too poor to get his own food.
You'd have to ID him/her/it/undecided, first.
And conversely, there are a lot of people who would find an actual confrontation a hell of a lot more uncomfortable than the suffering from some nasty hot sauce.

I give *D kudos; he came here to vent - and did so in admirable fashion
He was initially adamant that he was on the right track but then did a 'stop, look, and listen', subsequently modifying his stance.
He then stood up for what he believed was the best way to proceed and took action with full acknowledgment that he alone would be responsible for his actions.
I say, bravo mate,
whether I agree with you or not...

Anyone on this board that knows me personally off-board knows that I am the most peacefull, live-and-let-live person.

I read Buddhist books and study Hinduism and Shamanism. I'm not a cruel or mean person. I even scoop up bugs and put them outside.

I feel as though my character has been tainted because of my idea of setting a "trap" to not only catch -- but deter the thief.

Because, as I have said -- I think it's ridiculous that I should have to spend more of my already tight budget on food that won't be stolen.

It saddens me that this person couldn't have posted a note asking for any left overs -- their name wouldn't have to be on the note.

I'd totally give/encourage others to give this poor guy our left overs we can't eat--as long as they could be honest and anonymously post a message (as a respectable adult)...something like,

"Hi, I'm really hurting and any food you can spare I'd be grateful for. Please mark your food you wish to donate to myself with an X on it. God Bless".

That is the responsible, respectable way to get free food from the office fridge. IMO.

DD I got to agree with you on this one. I bet at least someone(out of all the people that work there) would give him something to eat.

By the way I don't think your food will get stolen anymore. If I worked in your office I would never still food out of that fridge after what happened to that janitor.

In case that you use the fridge tell us if your food get stolen again.

Hey Doc, did the sauce make your hands and face welt up?

I'm not carrying a grudge against you, I just loathe your seemingly joy in anticipation of others' pain. You seemed a bit too eager to cause the thief intense pain. You wanted to play detective and be the hero all at the same time. BTW, there aren't many offices that are open on Friday the Fourth of July or even Saturday, the Fifth of July. What type of office work do you do?

As Vicki pointed out, a Nannycam would have solved your problem and no one would have been hurt at all. They cost, what, about $30 - $40? Surely your union, who you have already stated would put out thousands of $$ for your legal fees, would spring for a Nannycam?

I'm a nice guy -- I really am...that's why It's been over 5 years since I've been laid. The nice guy never gets laid.

It bothers me that people here think I am some kind of demented and sick/sadistic/torture thief.

Oh well, you can't please all the people all the time. Thanks Trocisp and Viki FL...you both know me in my off-forum nature.

I admit, this did start out as an angry rant...and I felt at the moment like I wanted to get "even"...but after a few nights of sleep-age and listening to you all, it turned into a "snuff out the thief" -- more than ANY kind of revenge mission.

I just want to re-itterate that for everyone. This was not a revenge mission (and yes, i did have to smirk when it went down) -- but now I know who's been stealing everyone's food.

I just wish an anonymous "I need food, mark with an x to donate" message could have been posted. I would gladly -- as well as all my co-workers donated. No questions asked, no shame/embarrassment needed.

I guess I just trust/believe in honest and good nature-ness of the human race.

Nannycam would of been a super great idea.
If he didn't have money as he pointed out(DaDornta) he should of collected money(secretly) with his other colleagues that got their food stolen and that really wanted to find out who the culprit was or he could of even ask his boss for a little of money.
