Aight well my friend was holding about 1/2 oz for me because we had just got back from the beach and it was in his bag and i forgot to get it. Well anyways, to make a long story short, his dad saw it, and now he says his dad is debating whether or not to tell my parents. I don't know how I got into the equation, but he might've name-dropped me (I hope not because he is one of my best friends, and friends aren't supposed to do that). Now I'm not that young, 16 going on 17, but I'm more worried about the loss of trust. What should I tell my parents if he tells them? The truth, or should I alter it a bit?

Tell them it's fucking bullshit, and he's just trying to blame other people so he gets in less trouble. Don't alter the story, don't admit to anything. They have nothing on you except a desperate kid trying to put some of the blame on you. Dude, if your "friend" dropped your name like that to his parents you need to sit him down and set him straight or else you need a new friend.

I would normally say to just tell the truth so you bypass any further complications but you could try this solution. If it does not work though you will probably be in deeper than you already were. Because not only were you smoking behind their back, you were lying about it to their face when confronted.

yea, I still don't know if he dropped my name or not. I've known him since the fourth grade, and his dad might've just pieced the two together since we went to the beach together. If thats true, I don't want to put all the blame on him or my parents will forbid him from our house (I have to respect their rules, I'm not paying the bills). If he did drop my name, I have enough friends that losing one isn't such a big deal; especially one I can't trust.

I normally would tell the truth if it was me that was the one caught with the weed or smoking it. But it's not the case, his friend's parents didn't catch them smoking. He caught HIS son with weed. He didn't even catch them with weed while they were together which would be a lot more incriminating. Hockey hasn't been caught with anything or caught doing anything therefore if he does lie it's almost impossible to prove that he did. Also Hockey, your friend was the one caught. The busted etiquette my friends and I follow is whoever gets busted gets busted. No one drops any names, the person caught takes all the blame, and that's that. There's no reason for you both to get in trouble. I doubt he's going to get punished less if you tell his dad you smoked weed with him, that really doesn't change anything.

That's a tough spot for sure, you can assume already what won't work for you. Hoping the situation goes away by itself, playing "invisible", pleading with your friend (he already gave you up), none of these are options..

Not the greatest advice imo, the best way to go about this is to man up to it. Go and talk with your friends father, look him in the eyes, admit your fault for putting him in this situation. Tell him you're willing to flush the bud down to toilet in front of him, be sincere about it. Look at the situation from your friend's father's point of view, it is only chance that his son wasn't arrested during that time that he wasn't home and carrying your stash.

If he is debating whether or not to tell your parents he has to be a reasonable person.

You should know at your age, it takes a real man to fess up, and a bigger man to apologize. I've been in a similar situation at about the same age as you are now. I made it a point to go to my friends house when I knew he wouldn't be there and had a talk with his folks. After that talk I was given an amount of trust from them that shocked me, you'd be surprised what a little humility, honesty, and a firm hand shake goes for nowadays.

Well, if you deny that it's yours and turn it back on your friend, you are worse than him for "tattling" on you. It was yours.. why would he take the blame for it to his own father when it was, in fact, yours. It's not his fault that you left it

While that's not a bad idea by any means, I personally would never do something like that unless I was sure that the parents were chill. That could easily make the problem worse. His dad might be some kind of hard ass, we have no idea. The reason some parents don't tell other parents is because it makes them look bad, and if it happens at their house it opens up a potential legal situation. It might not be that's he's a reasonable person at all. Then again it's up to Hockey's discretion whether or not he's level headed, but I would advise on just denying it unless you really do feel like you're betraying your friend. They literally have nothing on him. Hockey when was the last time you smoked?
