We had a mother of a hurricane here in South Africa. The oceans where HUGE, there was 80ft waves everywhere. There was a lot of damage to the point, but here is my story:
I was walking around a trail next to a cliff to watch the huge hollow waves and blaze a little. I lit my joint (it took hours, the wind was a huge hurricane wind blowing off-shore) and as I smoke I see a school of dolphins catching and surfing a 80ft wave. I was so struck emotionally that I then and there blessed the dolphins and I almost cried, since I knew one of them must have died that day.

I went down to check the surf today and the waves from hanna were damn big, I was completely surprised as they were almost touching the walkways of the pier.

I'm in Raleigh and the storm was more hype by the media than an actual threat here. We did need the rain though.

I hope Ike stays out of the gulf. The storms seem to do more damage there.

Hanna knocked out power here for a couple seconds and it rained heavy. Hope Ike comes this way.

I remember when Hurricane Dennis hit in 1999. It softened up everything and then Floyd hit and really messed things up here in NC.
After Floyd, you could smell the odor of pine in the air as so many pine trees were knocked down. My wife and I were out on our deck as the power was off and the tropical air made it really humid. She let out a scream and I realized she had just been stung by a couple of yellow jackets. The ground was so wet, the yellow jackets had no home and were in a pissed off state of mind. So we had a choice....go in the house with no ac or stay outside with the bugs. We stayed inside. It took about a week to get the power back.
We had a number of trees in our yard that got knocked down but luckily it didn't damage anything.

I lived in Charlotte North Carolina when Floyd came. I remember we had school canceled and everyone was worriied but I woke up to a sunny beautiful day, I didnt even know it caused that much damage that was interesting to hear
