| There have been a couple threads about hurricanes, but there have been, and still are so many that I thought it deserved a main thread. People can come here to share their stories, if they are having to deal with this. Hurricane Hanna seems to be on her way close to Florida, skirting the east coast. From what I just saw on the weather, it will probably be the closest to us in the middle of the night Thursday. I despise the ones that go through in the middle of the night, but maybe this one will be a fast mover. Ike is behind Hanna, and there is one developing behind Ike, Josephine. I hate hurricane season....

| Here in NC nothing has got us yet but Hanna may become a bit of a problem. Plus my little spout (not going to get into it) may be at risk if it comes. I'm just hopping for a little storm and maybe a day off of school. It would allow for some excellent chill time inside. ![]() |

| im in south florida and when fay came, we basically had a bunch of wind but tons of rain..its wasnt too much to get overly-excited about and it DEFINANTLY wasnt something to worry about. Of course, that it only speaking for my area cause I heard the rain absoultely flooded tons of other locations in florida. Im pretty excited for hanna, I like the feeling of being inside and smoking while massive storms are tearing through my neighborhood..call me crazy. Of course I hope no one will get hurt in any of the next 3 storms, but proper preperation goes a long way with these things |

| Well, I live on the coast.. but the worst we've gotten so far is heavy rains and some winds. Nothing terrible. We did have a fairly bad hurricane a few years back.. we were 4 days without power, massive trees were uprooted and shattered road pavement. It was quite the sight. |

| I'm in Brevard County Florida, the water from Fay still hasn't receded much since it continues to rain everyday. If Hanna dumps on us we're screwed as much of the area around here is still messed up, roads are closed and washed out, some neighborhood streets still with several inches of water on them...We got 30+ inches of rain with Fay. Some of my neighbors houses are still flooded. My house is on slightly higher land than the rest of the neighborhood, but if it flooded again we'd be trapped. Florida Wildlife has been here twice in the days after Fay and removed three gators, two six footers and a seven footer, one of the smaller ones from the retention pond behind our yard. Overall Fay didn't freak me out at all since the winds weren't bad. Maybe I'm getting used to Florida, but Charlie and Rita scared the crap out of me a few years ago, but I could see charlie ripping trees up right near my house then. After Charlie we had no utilities for two weeks, not fun. I ran from a few hurricanes, and to be honest since i have no relatives in the south anymore it's just too expensive to run for me. Unless I think I'm going to take a direct hit from a Cat 5 I'm staying. Hanna and Ike look like they're going to dump rain at least and i hope that's all. Can't wait til November(end of hurricane season).

| Hurricanes are so fucking scary. I would hate to be in one. Two years ago, I watched a tornado take down my grampa's shed. that was sort of crazy, but damn. Hats off to the people cold enough to sit that shit through |

They also talk a lot about the beach erosion at New Smyrna Beach. It's sickening that millions of dollars were spent to rebuild that beach, and now it's almost all gone. | |

| Yeah, they spent millions repairing that beach just last year. It's not the weathers fault, when you flatten the dunes that act as a natural barrier to build a house at beach level, well, you're not the sharpest tool in the shed. Crossing my fingers you are right Vicki. Supposed to be nice today and the top of our retention wall appeared this morning after being topped for more than a week. Maybe some of this will drain off before Hanna |
