Alive-And-Dreaming

I used to consider myself a hippie, albeigt a slightly unconventional one. A little over 2 months ago, I smoked alot of really powerful indica while tripping lucy. I had done it before without marijuana, but never with, and I think it had a very profound effect on me. We listened to alot of music we do normally under similar circumstances: Pink Floyd, Positive-sounding Tool, Tortoise and alot of really positive stuff.

I had a good mood going in my head, as I often do, but I could feel the marijuana really effecting me on a powerful level, kind of blending with the LSD. I decided to do something I've never done before, and went into the bathroom to stare at myself in the mirror. I experienced what I had expected: My face changing and melting slowly, seeing stars, that kind of stuff. Then my face started looking evil and malicious, and I kept on hearing pigs sqealing violently inside my head. The weird thing was, while all of this scary, demonic shit was going on, my brain was flashing images of things I find positive, like smoking weed with my buddies and hanging out with my girlfriend. This paradox in my mind continued in a semi-subconsious state for the rest of the Acid-Weed trip.

Now for the strange part. Ever since that night, All of the normal, positive music I used to listen to alot (Stuff like Sublime, Grateful Dead, Will. I. Am) hasn't been "clicking" with me, so to speak. I don't get much of a buzz off of it, and it seems kind of hollow and distant. This never happened to me when I just tripped lucy, so I think the strong indica-acid combination really messed with my head. The only music I feel I really connect with is some freakishly dark stuff. I'm no stranger to metal and dark stuff, but that was all about emoting anger and whatnot. What I listen to now is really different. Stuff like Brotha Lynch Hung, Twiztid, Emperor, Burning Witch, and Murderous Deceit.

The same goes for imagery. Things like smiley faces, Happy 'lil mushrooms, tha terripin turtles and colors like purple and green whatnot fail to resonate with me on the same level as darker stuff like C. Manson-inspired artwork and melting faces and whatnot. I don't really describe it as "Going Goth" or the like, as it wasn't a willful or gradual shift. It seemed almost as if the music immediatly stopped resonating with my person.

Have any of you heard of similar things, and is there any way to rectify the situation? I enjoy some aspects of the dark things, but I miss alot of the positivity and lightheartedness of the other stuff. Is there a way to balance it out?

I really think you don't have anything to worry about. Just continue loving what you want to love, and don't stop and think about it too much - it'll slow you down.

I have to agree with macphearsome on this. I go through cycles of what i listen to, and at the same time my musical taste is ever growing. Although i've never been fond of alot of dark stuff like twizted and such, I can understand why someone would listen to that stuff. IMO just listen to what you want to listen to, and if you're bored just use pandora or some shit.

I definitely go through periods of time where I feel "dark" and enjoy darker music, thoughts, etc... It's kind of a nice change, but I usually end up back at having more upbeat interests. I wouldn't worry about it at all, unless you were thinking about doing something you shouldn't be...

I have had the same thing happen to me. It also involved "lucy". My tastes in things and people changed a lot, listening to happy music made me feel uncomfortable, I felt at home in darkness, and the most disturbing thing was in the act of doing things that would make me nervous before I wasn't nervous. I have moved away from that and can say I'm happy I went through it. I just had a stroke of evilness that helped me change my philosophy of life. Now I am not scared by any evil things at all really. Gore, nope; death, nope; divine intervention, slightly.

Anyway,
I start to feel dark only if I get depressed, or have something that is weighing heavily on my mind. But in your case, I see nothing wrong with it, people make that a lifestyle and love it.
