| so, i got a sugar glider for my birthday today. i go online, and do research on it and find that well first of all, its not good to have these pets unless u have atleast 2 of them, bc they are social and will get depressed. u also should have a decent sized cage and feed them certain kinds of bugs and sap from trees.... alright, thats cool. except... i never asked for a sugar glider.. i mean i used to have a cat but he ran away, and yes thats sad and i do like having pets, its just, i dont even know if this pet will uhm.. enjoy my lifestyle. mostly because, they are nocturnal and dont seem to like loud noises, and i play guitar a lot during the day. so yeah.... im confused. im heartbroken because i think i wont be able to keep it n yet my mom got all this stuff for it... in retrospect i asked her and she said she didn't know a whole lot about them. le sigh... idk what to do. lol its like my mom said she was going to get me something small for my birthday, and held her hand up saying "about this small", i thought it was going to be a guitar slide... which would of been perfectly fine. i dont want to sound ungrateful i just dont know what to do... anyone ever randomly given u a pet out of nowhere?

| I had 2 hamsters for about 3 years and they both died. I was sad so a few weeks later he got me 2 more, without me knowing about it and I didn`t want any more. They were a nightmare. They were soo mean! I would try to clean their cages and they would bite me for trying to put them in the ball. I got rid of them about a week later.

| I had no idea what you were talking about until I referenced google images. They look pretty cool, I'd just try to make the best of it. Maybe just tell your mom what you found out and that it'd be cool to get another one? |

| Just wait and see if you can take care of it, then if not, maybe make find a friend or something who can ![]()

| All I can say is do LOTS of research to make sure you can properly care for it. I don't know much about sugar gliders (except they're cute as hell). One thing to consider is vet bills. I've had ferrets all my life and one prairie dog. They were great but required an exotic animal vet, as the normal cat & dog vets typically don't accept such critters (not the case for ferrets so much anymore, since they are now pretty popular pets). Needless to say it was very expensive to get them the care they required. It seems like you're in a tough spot since you really don't want to hurt your mom's feelings (if you decide not to keep it that is). I wish I had a good suggestion for this. Maybe ask your mom to research the animal with you. Then, if you both find that this is a pet that you would enjoy and could easily take care of.. awesome. If not, at least your mom will have come to the same conclusion with you. I wish you and the little critter all the best.... btw, have you picked a cool name for it yet?

| LOL, yeah, my friend calls it "The gift of responsibility" It sounds like you have a good head to know that you might not be the best person to care for an animal at this point in your life. That's awesome! I wish EVERYONE would make SURE they were ready to have a pet. ANY pet! Kudos to you for that. I think it would be best if you tried to find an ideal home for home for him/her. Man, I would take him/her if I could! Those things are pretty cool. Sadly, I wouldn't be any better... Good luck! Here is what they look like for those of you who haven't seen them... ![]() |
