So I'm on my way to a cannabis club to talk to the guys who work there, when I get a call from my Dad, whom I don't really have much of a relationship with. It's a long story, but to make it short I don't really know him too well, and he has only been a fraction of my life up to this point.
Little did I know that would change even more...

He calls to inform me that his Dad, my Grandfather on the pops side is dying of a horrible stomach cancer. He probably won't make it through the weekend. We have a conversation about that for a while, it sucks to find out that he's dying, but I had even less of a relationship with my Grandfather than I did with my dad. I don't know what to make of it.

After this bombshell, he drops another one on me.

I don't have to worry about getting the same kinds of cancer that he did, or that my dad will probably end up getting. He himself has a pituitary gland tumor that's benign, but still he shows that his family has a propensity to cancer. His mom died of cancer as well.

"What do you mean I don't have to worry about it?" I ask him.

"Well, your brother does. He's an Edwards. (Our surname). But you don't... you're an O'Brien (my mother's maiden name)," he replies.

"..."
"..."
"..."


...

So today I learned, my brother is actually my half brother. My dad isn't really my dad, and the grandfather who is dying isn't my blood.
I haven't spoken to my mom about this yet, I just found out today... I'm not sure if I should call her or go up and see her about it.

It kinda made sense... when he said it. It feels right. It explains a few things I guess I've wondered about over the years, like why I don't resemble my dad in any way, but I do my mother. Like why I'm the tallest one in all my family, by over 3 inches. Like why my brother and I barely look anything alike other than the frecklies. I don't know what to think.

So, that's been my day so far! How have you guys been doing?
