| Some of the smartest and most diversely knowledgeable people I've ever had tha pleasure of interacting with are on this forum, so I'm gonna throw this out there: This morning marks tha third time it's happened, it began about two months ago, and now I'm wanting some advice. I woke up and my head hurt. I couldn't breathe and my heart was RACING. My blood pressure HAD to be through tha roof, it was damn near deafening. Given about ten minutes, things seemed to return to normal and I was back to shaving and showering...but those ten minutes scared me. I swore my heart/brain was gonna blow a gasket and leave my wife collecting SS for my kids. Now, I smoked a fatty blunt of some decent mids before I went to bed, but that is a regular occurrence for me...don't think that's a factor. It's happened three times, but only began about two months ago. I'm overweight, overstressed, and have been more sedentary than usual for tha last year or so. I don't take any meds and haven't fucked with offtopics, even alcohol or cigs, in two and a half years...there are only a handful of exceptions and not within tha last few weeks. It's a riddle that I get several answers to from surfing google and other forums with posts similar to this one, but....well, if I'm gonna look to a forum for advice it'll be this one, where tha IQ levels are above remedial class specifications. So, any of you aspiring doctors/nurses/emts got an answer? Is this something that should go away or do I need to shell out money I don't have for a doctor visit I don't want? |

| Are you sure it wasn't a panic attack? You may not want to take medical advice from the net lol But on the real get a checkup, don't wait till its too late...

| Since it's your heart that seems to be troubling you, I would go to the doctor right away. Being overweight, stressed and sedentary, your heart is at a higher risk for disease and complications. I wouldn't wait any longer to see a doctor about it, but if money is REALLY tight and you need some time to save up, you could work on changing your diet, add some light cardio workouts to your daily routine, and try to de-stress a bit.

| You should go to the doctor and have some tests done, just to be safe. Chances are, he'll tell you to eat healthier and exercise more. He may also find something that could end up saving your life. One thing I would like to recommend is that you look into meditation, it can be a great stress relief tool and it sounds like you could really use that. Good luck man, and try to take it easy...

| Kind of sounds like a night terror( I get them once in a while and they are freightening..). Could you think straight? Did have a feeling of imminent death? Sweating real bad? I think my night terrors may be triggered by heat, but a lot of things can cause them, like stress, medication, alcohol. If you google it, it'll probably say stuff about waking up screaming, stuff like that, but mine are different, I wake up with the feeling of imminent death and am not totally aware, and usually lasts no more than ten minutes. Read more at www.nightterrors.org (site won't load for me at the moment)

| Well, so far it looks as if I gotta make a dr. appt. Thanks for tha tips, y'all. I used to meditate but it's hard with three kids running around all tha time. I should start taking an hour or so before bed and just lock myself away. I wasn't sweating or terrified. I'd actually had a good dream but not that good ![]() I'm thinking it's Sleep Apnea. My mom has it and that's what fingers are pointing at. Anyone here have sleep apnea? |

| It MIGHT just be stress related, but you don't want to play around with heart issues. Look around for a clinic that won't cost as much as an ER visit or a family doctor visit. Since you have kids, you should be able to get help somewhere a little less expensive than the regular options... Worth looking into anyway... Hope you feel better soon. And don't work yourself up worrying. You can compound a stress issue by, well, streaaing about it. It is very common for people who get sudden arrhythmia to make it worse by freaking out about it. Same idea could apply here... If you think you might be having heart problems, then get scared (as is only natural!) you can make it worse by sitting there freaking out and shooting more adrenaline into your system. Try and find a cheaper place to visit and check out your health... Good luck!

| I'd say for this go to the doctor, I remember my dad was having high blood pressure while he was at work and was fainting. This is not something you just let go. GO TO THE DOCTOR please!

| Yea, when we are talking about something as serious as a heart condition, its best you seek medical advice from a doctor. Whether being stressed or overweight has anything to do with it or not, you should really consider nipping those two in the butt. Obesity causes a vast array of health risks, all of which end in a shorter, less fulfilling life. Hit up the gym a couple times a week (after you visit the doc about your heart) and make an effort to stay off the fried foods. Now as for my uneducated opinion, I think you probably have heart palpitations... symptoms- tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, dizziness or light-headedness From what Ive read, caffeine plays a major roll in this (wouldnt ya know it, the legal stuff). Do you drink a lot of soda? I already know you drink plenty of coffee. Lay off the caffeine for a bit if you dont go visit the doctor.

| I think it may be sleep apnea also. If possible try having your wife monitor your sleep to see if she notices if you stop breathing or begin gasping for air. I suffer from sleep apnea which I was completely unaware of till one night I scared the fuck out of my girl one night when she noticed I had stopped breathing. I've never actually woken up like you have but it does play hell with my sleep patterns. Obesity can be a contributing factor so try cutting some pounds (it's good for your health overall). I've found that by folding my pillow up and sleeping in a more inclined position tends to help a little.
