| Just seen this on the news... Don't know if this fits here or not but wanted to inform people. ![]() ![]() CHARDON -- A Vietnamese man who identified himself as Cuong Tran appeared in Chardon Municipal Court Wednesday afternoon for arraignment on charges he was operating a large-scale marijuana farm in his basement. Chardon Police and Geauga County Sheriff's Deputies say they hauled some 500 potted marijuana plants out of Tran's basement on West Point Train in Chardon in The Woods of Burlington Tuesday evening. The plants were lined up the length of the home's driveway, side by side. Tran appeared in court by video connection to the Geauga County Jail where he is being held. A public defender will be appointed. Tran's arraignment was re-scheduled for 9:30 A.M. Thursday morning. Sheriff Dan McClelland described the allegedl basement enterprise as one of the largest and most elaborate marijuana-growing operations in Geauga County It's estimated about $500,000 worth of pot was found inside the house. Officers say Tran was stealing electricity to power the 180 degree lights he had for the plants. Meanwhile, Portage County Sheriff's Deputies spent Tuesday evening and part of Wednesday hauling more than 500 large marijuana plants out of the basement of a $300,000 home in suburban Streetsboro on Sparrow Run Road. Deputies arrested 54-year-old Tieng Lam who identified himself as a Vietnamese national on charges of cultivating marijuana. He apparently lived in the home alone. Sheriff Duane Kaley said the basement of the home had been converted into a hydroponic greenhouse with electrical connections directly to outside power lines to draw the current necessary to create high temperatures and high humidity, ideal growing conditions. The marijuana plants were only grown in the basement then were apparently transported elsewhere for processing. Police in Streetsboro and Chardon have not determined if the two operations were connected. -clownz-
