Cool

Hi to all,
I am wondering if there are any others out there who are in my category? I am going to be 50 in 2 weeks. From 1985 (when my daughter was 1) till 1995, I quit smoking. Then we went to Amsterdam and hello old friend. I came back home and realized that some go and get prozac, etc. I guess I self-medicate with smoke, but I like the mellow feeling I get. Why is this worse than prescription stuff? I tried an anti-depressent once and it made me sick. I am not depressed when I am smoking...odd!
The hard thing for me is finding it, since I am not the traditional college age. I have thought about growing it, but have never had any luck.
Any other older people out there doing the smoke?
Thanks for your replies.
Louise

(this is off topic, but i need to ask)

Louise, i have a question about prozack. My brother use to take it, well he had no choice, my parents kinda forced him too. ANd i noticed he is different than he use to, and he dosn't even take it any more. Have you noticed any long term effects of prozack?

Default Prozac??

Hi,
I don't think I am a good one to answer a prozac question. I tried Celexa and only tried it twice. Maybe if I didn't have smoke I would try it again. But to me, smoke is much nicer. It doesn't make me sick. People have told me that sometimes is takes a couple of months to see a difference. But I didn't give it that much time. Sorry I couldn't help with your question.

Louise,
As noted on
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/htbin-po...=6&db=m&Dopt=b
Marijuana is suspected as being able to treat depression, and out of the categories listed by those who claim to self medicate, depression/anxiety was ranked number 1. The problem is the limited amount of studies on THC. To get MJ decriminalized, the most severe cases, such as cancer and AIDS will likely gain more compassion from ultra-conservatives, hence it is used to spearhead the medicinal movement. THC, in my opinion, will be the potentially broadest treatment for various medical probs since aspirin (though aspirin isn't of use for any serious illnesses, unlike MJ).

Stoopid (just can't get over calling you that ), prozac has been known to have permanent effects after its discontinuation of use. It is also possible that the person's chemical balance simply changed due to metabolic occurences natural in the maturation process.
This goes off into the neurotransmitter called serotonin (prozac is a SSRI, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor).
I'm afraid any broader discussions on what it is and does would veer the discussion off topic. Note that the majority of people who tried it have found it to work only temporarily if at all. Also note that the majority of depressed people in outpatient programs have failed to find any satisfaction with any of the anti-depressants currently on the market. MJ has, in my opinion, the greatest potential on a mass scale in this category.

Long live the leaf!!!

Default oldsters

Hi Louise,

I'm 41. Am I old enough? I, too, took a long hiatus from grass (as I used to call it in the day). It lasted about five years (the dry spell). Suddenly, I found myself living alone in an apartment building. New neighbour moves in. The hallways become redolent with sweet smell. Neighbour and I chat. After about ten minutes (i'm not hard to size up), he brings up the subject of puff. Ten minutes after that, I'm high and loving it. (Like you said: "hello old friend." That rings soooo true). That was a few years ago.

I had the same problem as you. How does an oldster score weed? After a while I got tired of relying on dealers. Decided to learn to grow. First year I grew a few small girls on the balcony. Following year, moved operations into the country. I bike and hike to my location. I spend lots of time in forests and fields. I've learned tons of stuff about growing, but also about all sorts of wild plants and animals (not from reading!).

You should try growing your own. Think about how cool it would be to supply yourself. And you will like the adventure (keep in mind our age is our best disguise!).

Oh crap, I'm turning into a long-winded geezer.

Talking "older people"

Hi Louise and Phud,

I am among the older group, but a little younger than y'all. =) I had a great dealer in Washington but am currently living in Indiana. I understand how you feel.

I've seriously thought about growing it myself and feel that one day when I'm in a good location I will. Mostly, to not have to worry about going to a dealer anymore! It does get old.
