| I think most everyone smoked to be cool at some point. Think about the circumstances of how you started and what you were doing. You were prolly with friends, you were prolly experimenting, you were prolly at least in part doing it because you knew were not supposed to. The type of people that jonby17 was talking about are the type of people that do EVERYTHING they do just to be cool. They bought a new leather jacket? They make sure to wear it even if it is 75 degrees outside. I've seen those same types of kids have their mom give them a ride to school, with their new mountain bike on the roof of the new mini-van, just so they could show off the bike at school. Then mom picks them up, bike and all, and takes them home. Or, they may be on the opposite extreme. They want to make sure everyone knows they are a bad kid. They hang out in the hall and stare people down. Start fights. Talk tough. Get "caught" with weapons at school. Make sure everyone knows they have been to Juvey. In either case, the thing that unites these kids is that they are starved for attention. Even greedy for attention. If someone wants to be "cool" for smoking pot, it's not because of the pot, its because of THEM. They have character flaws. I just ignore folks like that. If they need to draw attention to themselves, I don't care, they can have it. For these kids, it doesn't matter if you love them or hate them, as long as you NOTICE them. Personally, I am just indifferent to them. Not only does that work out the best for me, it really pisses them off, kinda like a little bonus, without having to work. ![]() | |

| I used to be alot like that,,,,indifferent to many of the thoughts i didn't want to try and understand i don't know when or where exactally the change started taking place, but it did ,and i'm glad Getting to know and coexist with others, different from you is a necessity in these times, especially since our horizons are all so open. The more good thoughts you give to something you dislike, the less you'll dislike ....my own indifference did nothing but make me bitter![]() but i'm a happy tokin voice of oppression now![]() B.suede

| Suede sez "Ya know Fuzz- I used to be alot like that,,,,indifferent to many of the thoughts i didn't want to try and understand" Where in my post did it say that I didn't want to try and understand other people? Also, you said your indifference made you "bitter." how can indifference make someone bitter? The definiton of indifference is: indifference n 1: unbiased impartial unconcern Bitter is neither unbiased or unconcerned. | |

| I've known just a few around here that you can call posers, it's just annoying to be around. Now when I started smoking in January of 2000, the first thing I thought was... I never want to be known as one of those people who thinks they're cool because they smoke. And I never have been known as one of those... so 6 months later, I start seeing people who act exactly like what I easily avoided. It's stupid and immature. How can anyone act like that? And when I say "that", I mean acting like a fool by puffing the smoke and not inhaling, wasting weed. | |

| Jr. Member | um.. i think its kinda wrong to say EVERYONE who has smoked thought they were cool for it at one time... because i never thought that way. infact i was a bit paranoid the first few weeks i was into it.. being fresh out of the DARE brainwash. (well, three years after being in dare). so i started learning about it, and here I am. never once thought I was "cool" because i smoked.

| the whole thread blew right past me :I started just drawing a comparison to indifference and the "to things i didn't want to understand"just took over my reply.Although it does seem directed toward you ,that part and for the rest of that post, was meant completely as self reflecting. Please accept my apology for the statement,it did seem as though i was slighting your integrity. To me ,indifference became a scapegoat for anything I chose not to confront,or deal with. After 20 or 30 years of it and you find yourself confronting nothing, and dealing with even less. One morning I looked in the mirror & saw the face of an aging, indifferent, oblivious to the world around him, bitter old fart, still trying to adjust........fit in.......... be kewl........about being kewl IT"S HARD WORK,,,,it doesn't stop just because you're kewl today,,,,,,,indifference shows lack of concern,,, all negativity,,,,,,negativity ain't kewl.....again my apologies b.s. |
