Increased heart rate is most definitely a possible side effect of smoking herb. You can still feel relaxed, though. The two are not mutally exclusive.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have had a similar experience recently. I think that it was the weed. I went for the last few days on a new batch of herb and every time I smoked it I'd get the exact same symptoms that you described. I was starting to get very bummed out because I like herb and I didn't want to have to stop. Well, I decised to do a little experiment. I had some resin left over from a previous stash (I save it in case of lean times, heh). I tried the resin and I was shocked. It induced all of the good old feeeelings that I remembered and NONE of the anxiety. I think that because people are constantly trying to improve pot potency all the time by crossing different powerfull strains, that there sometimes comes a batch that has the wrong balance of chemicals in it. Remember that herb has all sorts of chemicals in it. It is the mixture of these chemicals that produces the effects, not just the THC. I don't remember what it's called, but I remember reading about a certain chemical in herb that can reduce the negative stress reactions from herb. They use this CBD, or somthing like that, in the THC pills to reduce negative side effects. I think that the herb that you and I had was just a bad strain. You have to figure that there is bound to be SOME bad batches out there.

I'm not trying to be rude, as I understand stuff like this actually happens to people, I just have a funny feeling the story was BS.

My gf however - when she smokes, her heart pounds like crazy. It scares me sometimes.

This sounds kinda like something that happened to me about a month ago. I was sitting there blazing on my couch and actually convinced myself my heart wasn't beating at all but then realized it was bs because I would be dead. I guess the weed was a little too good haha.
