This is an old story, and fortunately (knocking on wood) my only encounter with the law or "getting caught". It was also quite bizarre.

It's May of 1975, I had turned 21 in January. I am not very tall, and at the time did not look 21. My bf (now an x) and I had just earned our first week's vacations from our jobs and decided to go to New Orleans for as many days as our money would hold us. My father loaned us his new Chevy Caprice convertible to drive there.

First day there, we're walking all over the French Quarter having a great day. About 4 in the afternoon we wander back to our car and dozed off in the front seat with the top down. A friendly Quarter police officer quickly woke us up and suggested taking a nap here wasn't such a good idea.

So we dug out our map and traced some backroad to the lake (Ponchatrain). Decided we'd go there, plan our next action (and smoke a joint). The road ended in a medium size gravel parking lot with a ramp that led to the lake. It was the middle of the week and completely abandoned. We thought.

We hadn't even relaxed enough to admire the view before a county, no excuse me, a parrish sheriff pulls in, spitting gravel and looking mean. He asks for our ids, mine clearly states that I am 21. He separates us and handcuffs my bf.

He then comes back to the car and starts questioning me. Mostly my name and stuff about the car. Back in my home state, you do not need to carry your car's registration, only insurance and dl. This sheriff kept demanding the registration, I kept insisting I did not have it and tried to explain why. A number of times.

He repeatedly asked me to look in the glove box for it. I insisted it wasn't in there (knowing that's where our stash is). This guy was mean, and I was very inexperienced (young and dumb to be exact) in dealing with adults, especially an adult like this. I was becoming quite frightened of him.

Finally I quickly opened and closed the glove box (praying he sees nothing) and said, see, no registration. That was that. Next thing I know another car shows up and takes us both to HQ. The mean sheriff keeps insisting during the ride there that telling the truth now will make it easier for me later.

All I could tell him was who I am, why we were there and how this was a total buzz kill (no I didn't use those words). At HQ, I am never read my rights. I am not allowed a phone call. The sheriff calls my family instead. Fortunately my sister answered and told him exactly what I had, we were on vacation in New Orleans with my dad's car and I really am 21.

Eventually a judge comes and within five minutes, my bf is brought out and uncuffed. We are given the keys to our car, relieved of a couple hundred precious dollars and told to never, ever come back to New Orleans.

BTW - I've been back to NO four times since, including to celebrate my twins' 21st birthday.

close call about 20 mins ago...

my dad was looking for the fireplace lighter to light the grill, and he couldn't find it. so, since things have been found in the past, he decides to search my room. he finds a fireplace lighter inside a pillow(it wasn't even ours, i took it from my church, i have no idea where ours is) and apparantly while searching found a spit bottle as well. he comes downstairs to talk to me, and i say the spit bottle was my friend's and the lighter i was using to light tissues on fire for fun(i do that occasionally). he is still of course, suspicious, so he decides to piss test me. i explained to him second hand pot smoke from concerts and shit like that, so it might be positive idk. i drank a shit load of water+tea throughout the day(not knowing this would happen) but it's only been about a week and a half since the last time i toked, so i was still a little worried. i get piss tested and hurry back to my room to see if anything else is taken, and it's not. piece is still there, bag of some shake, other lighters, etc. i come downstairs and he's talking to my mom. i walk up and he says "i'm sorry i didnt trust you, it was negative". i walked back upstairs laughing my ass off.

I got caught by my parents 2 weeks ago after smoking about 2-3 times daily for the last year and a half or so and smoke occasionally for like a year b4 that. As usual, I had just thrown my clothes on for school and was settling down with a bowl of my badass pipe, as usual. What was not usual was that my father opened my door mid-hit. I shoved the pipe in between my legs and cuffed the lighter in my hand. He cheerfully said "it's time for school i think u gotta go soon." I turned to him and found that he didn't know a thing, so I said "alright." Big mistake... As i said b4 i was mid hit, so as I said alright a decent amount of smoke came out along with it... Needless to say i was fiz-ucked and i'm grounded for 2 months now, can't do anything at all. And every time my parents ask me about it i keep telling them I don't believe it's wrong or harmful and i'm not stoppin. I still smoke every day without them knowing, i waked and baked every day this vacation in my attic and they haven't been able to tell.

I've never had any "run ins" with the police but I've had to "run away" from the police quite a few times. That sucks that u got caught man, that's kinda why i don't like smokin in cars, it's hard to get away if any anti-marijuana jackass or cop comes after u. It just makes u think about how safe ur smokin spots really are, and thats why all my smoking spots besides my bedroom are in some hard to see area of the woods or some shit.

I got cought, my parents don't care, not a great story. My friend, however has the funniest conversations with his mom (hes an all around dick to her). Heres one of them -
Mom-I saw that huge bong in your room
Son-You think that ones huge... you should see the one I keep in the basement

Me- "Is it, so you ready to take a vacation"

Son- "Uh maybe where to?"

Me- "Well I'm going to stay here at the house in the warmth and your going go pack up all of your belongings and your going to leave my house and go live on your own until you can earn a little bit of fucking respect, this is not a joke and if your not out of here within ten minutes I'm sure the police would love to confiscate your bongs"

That is because only highschool students gets caught, since adults have an entire home for themselves, and highschool students get little to no privacy.

This is true. I only ever smoke at houses (mostly my own) and have never, ever gotten caught.

I just finished reading all 141 pages of this thread over the last few days (my hookup had a falling out with the friend I knew him through and we're not cool anymore, so I'm super bored until I find a new source ). I started smoking at the beginning of my sophomore year of college and have been smoking for a little over three years now.

I've never been caught myself (we'll...my sister narced on me but in the words of my mother, "There's nothing I can do to you.") but I will share a story about some friends of mine. In the golden years I had about 6 guys who lived on my floor and the floor below me in my dorm building who I could buy from. One night they were breaking up a QP across the hall from me and apparently had forgotten to set up a fan for the smell. RA called campus police and they got busted right there.

I saw what was going on and quickly jetted downstairs to give the others a heads up. We packed everyone's stuff up in a locked trunk and dropped it at another friend's apartment. One of the guys who got busted talked and the cops brought the dogs around but there wasn't anything to find, fortunately. Moral of the story: have a routine and always stick to it. Never, *EVER* slack off not even once because there is a good chance that is the time you'll get busted.

Some tips for my fellow smokers out there:

1) Invest in some ozium. You should be able to find it at an AutoZone and some gas stations. It's what a lot of places use to give used cars that new car smell and will literally eat the smell of weed out of the air, no joke.

2) Others have mentioned this but I will reiterate that when smoking in your car don't use a piece. Roll a J or a blunt before you go and keep a pouch of rolling tobacco out in the open if you're of age to smoke cigarettes. That way if you get pulled ditch the J, discreetly spray some ozium (a little goes a *long* way), and you have a handy excuse for what may have appeared to have been a joint to the cop .

3) If you're smoking in a room invest in a box fan, possibly another small fan, and one of those AirWick air fresheners to complement the ozium. When you're smoking set the Airwick to go off every 9 minutes - the lowest interval (I think they also sell ozium refills for these so check). The box fan should go in the window and the small fan set up in front of the AirWick pointing away from the door. The small fan will disperse the air freshener quickly throughout the room and if you throw a towel under the crack of the door the box fan is powerful enough that it should create slight negative pressure in the room. This means that air is only coming into your room from the door and not going out.

Yes and to add to that: Never EVer get high and go to work at your Job. Believe me, if you go to work high something odd or screwed up WILL happen that requires your attention and for you to be in front of a people talking and discussing things. DO NOT GO to your Job stoned.
