| It's interesting how I always seem to read about school's being very opressive about drugs and alternative behaviors. This is mainly because my school administrators don't seem to care about this. There are a large group of smokers who are VERY open about their use, never have we been drug tested, or even questioned. I've never seen a drug bust go down here, but one time I did see a police K-9 unit, but I believe that was over a bomb threat (which are quite common in the area, and the principals don't seem to take them that serious anymore) My friend claims that his guidance counselor had a talk with him, saying that he was obviously drugged up because he was sleeping in class all the time. He vocally expressed that the days he was sleeping and not paying attention were the days he WASN'T drugged up. I've heard no more on the subject. I've done a debate on legalization of marijuana in class (and won it, I might add ) There is alot of talk about pot and the teachers overhear it occasionally but don't seem to do anything but give dirty looks. I checked out a few books from the library on marijuana(which were filled with misinformation), my principal say them and said she thought medical marijuana should be legalized for people that need it.We're even allowed to wear clothing with contraband being expressed on it. I wear a shirt with a small potleaf that says chronic, and two teachers have said I shouldn't wear it, but I still do without adminastrative harassment. A friend of mine wears a silver necklace with a potleaf, another friend wears a shirt with a joint on it, and they continue to wear them. Also, some schools require dreadlocks to be covered. My dreadlocks were never questioned, nor my friends' locks. Why is it some schools are all "zero tolerance" about such subjects and some schools don't seem to worry about it. | |

| I'm no longer in school, because I'm finishing high school via corrispondance. However, when I was attending my local high school... the teachers and administrators didn't give a rat's ass what you wore. I don't think that it really mattered to them because they're just clothes, that's all! I had a necklace with a pot leaf on it and a couple of my friends had "LEGALIZE!" t-shirts and we were never even asked about them. But, when the principal caught a kid rolling a joint in the washroom... he was expelled.

| My school doesn't have a dress code for either sexes, though they will express their opinion but won't make you change it at all. They will NEVER do locker searches unless a gun threat/bomb threat is reported, even if a drug suggestion is made. This is mainly because people have abused this and made false claims (thank you god!) just to joke/insult with someone. My school is pretty lenient but of course if you get caught trafficking, smoking, rolling, or anything like that you'll get suspended for 3 days and that's it.

| all the schools in my city (maybe even all of BC?) are in what is called a 'drug free zone'... this extends several blocks around the school in all directions. if you get caught with drugs in this area, the fines are substantially more and so is jail time and/or expulsion from school. a deal was going down on the other side of the arena next to our school near the beginning of the year that got busted by the principal, and those kids got expelled from school and the dealer got sent to jail and fined (i dunno how long / how much) apparently the teachers are allowed to call the cops on us even if we just smell like bud, but I haven't seen that yet. | |

| Yes, I have the drug free zone in my town in B.C. but the teachers aren't allowed to call on the scent (who would smell it over all the BO? ) but as I stated before they aren't allowed to locker search unless they have some proof or something like that. |
