| I got a quirk about cops I frankly don't like. First everytime I have been stopped by a cop I was very courgoual (sp?) Yes sir, no sir, sorry sir. Never had an attitude with a cop. The thing I dont like is niteshift often refers to how he would let someone off unless they had an attitude, which makes sense and im not commin down on him for this, but if you are clearly in the right (which i have been every time i have been questioned by an officer) I feel I have the right because most the time cops have an inflated self ego, especialy rookies. Its extremely easy to tell how long a cop has been on the beat. Anyway, sometimes cops are rather less than freindly even in small matters. All I can figure is they put on the badge and the gun and suddenly they are all mighty and have the right to verbaly treat you like shi+. It's not anything big, but cops generaly (except the cool veterans) are a bunch of anal retentive jerks. BTW niteshift, from your posts i can tell you are one of the cool, level headed cops. I have been held at gunpoint because I had my hand in my pocket when they came strollin by. All we were doin is lifting the steal poles out of the ground and dropping them so the water would splash up. Nothin smart, but also nothing bad. At worst a minor offence. (they were rookies, two of them) ANother thing-most cops unless they are cool or helpful or right, generaly after confronting them me and friends make a great deal of fun of them for the way they act self richeous.

You were "just" vandalizing stuff and polluting a river, but you are "always in the right"...and you make fun of them after they walked away... Yeah that shows lots of respect for property, environment, and people.... Maybe it's just me...maybe it's cause I smoke the devil's weed but your entire diatribe sound oxymoronic ![]() | |

| I've just been very busy. Mikey, I'm sure there is a question in there, and I don't want to ignore it, but I'm not sure what it is. I'm sorry if you don't like the fact that I do let attitude help determine what I do. I'm truthfully not asking for approval, I'm just being honest about it. And this isn't unique to cops, most people do it; waitresses, sales clerks, operators............ if you're a jerk with them, they will not go out of their way to make your life simpler. If you treat them with respect, it will normally be returned.

| It is always easy to laugh at people after they are gone if we were intimidated by their presence. Somehow it relieves the tension and makes us feel as if we were a little less scared at the time. It gives us a false sense of bravery. If I am pulled into my bosses office afterwards I might mimic their voices or their wording but eventually I realize that it is my way of coping with the scare I got. It doesn't change the facts of what they are saying or the weight of their authority and in the end just makes us look childish. It is a tough habit to get out of but in the end it isn't really as comical as we try to make it. So continue to laugh afterwards if it makes you feel better, but don't mistake the humor you found in the situation for being "in the right" or for their short comings. Just my thoughts on the matter. |

| i was stopped by a cop once, or sheriff rather. I now have a profound respect for them. I had two joints in my ashtray. The sheriff stopped me and asked me the usual questions...(i think, i have never been stopped before or after that). But anyways he then asked me to open the ashtray. I did and he asked me if it was marijuana, and i answered: yes sir it is. He then told me "to make sure it gets into a ditch before i left". I then got out and threw the pot on the ground nearby, and drove away. That was positively the most excruciating moment of my life, but the sheriff handled the situation like a pro. So, i cant say anything but good things about law enforcement officials, im sure there are a lot of bad ones, but i have never met them. So, in conclusion, i understand what you are saying Mikey, its jsut that you might just be taking the issue a little bit too far. | |

| Hello everybody, I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything of the sort but when I read this I just had to reply: "BTW niteshift, from your posts i can tell you are one of the cool, level headed cops. I have been held at gunpoint because I had my hand in my pocket when they came strollin by. All we were doin is lifting the steal poles out of the ground and dropping them so the water would splash up. Nothin smart, but also nothing bad. At worst a minor offence. (they were rookies, two of them)" I've only had two experiences with cops, both times they were quite rude and forceful. I didn't take it personally because I can say this about police officer's job; when you go to work everynight and at any given moment somebody might pull out a gun, you might get a little jumpy when a guy reaches into their pocket for no apparent reason. Please keep in mind, rookie or not, those cops couldn't see what you had in your pocket. Don't take it personally, they just wanna make it through the job in one piece. Stranger | |

| i'm sorry but..... cops are people to and they will usually treat you with respect if given respect......out of all the incounters i have had with law officials, i have learned to be truthful and sincere,,,and show respect....i have been given breaks.....number 1 thing to remember is to not be placed in the position to be visited by the police....you know like driving while under the influence.....and i do know they hate people who try to treat them as tho they are dumb.....and remeber they have bad days as well and yes they carry guns..think about why that is so.......my hats off to the police force.........and thanks to niteshift for being respectful and profesional in answering questions. AND TELLING IT LIKE IT IS ![]()
