| Ok so i was at school, and i was walking down the hall and their was this posted on the wall with detachable phone numbers. Well it said "College students wanted: $18.50 per/hour, 8 - 30 hours" and then it said somthing along the lines of "No telemarketing and no door to door" So im like well damn for 18.50 ill do pratically anything. So anyways I call them up and im like "Ok so whats the deal with this job?" and then they respond with something along the lines of "Well you have to come down too our home office in Nashua for an interview and we will tell you their." so they schedueled me an appointment for 6:00. Well anyways I went down to the office all the down in nashua which is a pretty good drive. So when i get their, there is around 20 people sitting in the room waiting to be interviewed, so I sat down and filled out an application. And i was evntually called in. Well so im sitting their being interviewed and it was going pretty well and i was expecting to be told what the job was about but all she said was ok we are going to invite you to stay for the second half of the interview ( i guess they toss out the people who they dont like ) and that i would be told what it was all abou then. So at this point im like alright and went out side the to sit down in the waiting area again and eventually after everyone had a chance to go into that 1st interview everyone that was left had to sit down for this presentation to be told what they were doing. Now i was pretty concerned at this point that this was a really lame job, because if it wasnt then why wouldnt they tell me what i was their for? And i was talking with people in the waiting area and none of them knew either. So anyways they started the persentation and they start off telling us about the company and what we would be selling which was kitchen knives... i think they brand was cutco or somthing like that. Well anyways i must admit these pretty pretty good knifives they could cut leather in one or to strokes and what not. So im thinking ok maybe we will be calling people up trying to sell these... but then i remember no tellemarketing.... So eventually they told us the whole deal and that was that we would be selling them to people we know and then we would get "referalls to other people they know" and go to their house and sell the product to them and that it wasnt even 18.50 an hour, but it was 18.50 an appointment... now when they said this the interview was at about 2 and 1/2 hours into it and i was pretty much like ok forget this, is is really lame. But then the presentation ended. And they were like ok now you are all going to meet with someone one on one for like 5 min and they will tell you if you got the job. Well, I knew i wouldnt take the job because its just not my type of thing. But i deicided to stay too see if i would of gotten it anyways just because i was curious. So i was called and we talked for a bit and she said that i got the job ( i would call her up later and tell her "no thanks") so i was like ok and left. So all in all that poster was one big lie because the job was a combo of telemarketing and door too door. Because you have to call up the refereralls and then go to their house if they agree too it. So the moral of the story is... if the people on the phone wont tell you what the job is about, then its probably not the best job in the world. ![]()

| That would have been funny if you'd taken the job, then when they had asked you to make a list of referrals, you could list a bunch of your pot-smoking friends, then when they ask you where you know this guy, or that guy, from, you could say "I buy weed from him," or "We smoke bowls together." LOL. Ya, it's usually a pretty bad sign when they won't tell you the job over the phone. Don't even bother!!! |

| hahah vector i did vector last summer was sereously one of the things i've done in life that i'm truely glad i didn't miss i didn't make very much money, i dind't do enuf appts but i'm like one of the best sales ppl my age i'm sure i could sell anything right now i'm workin at wendy's and there are contests and such for ppl who get the highest %'s of ppl that order combos to biggiesize them, i've won every one so far, usually around 36% or so the next person down is like 30%, and i thank my sales knowledge that i recieved working for vector when i was there i was still one of the top salesppl in the office, despite my low appt numbers, i had the highest avg order size, and buy:not buy ratio something like 10:1 or so, i went to the regional conference in chicago, that was great bunch of ppl out there all gettin together lots of them smokin up i didn't smoke at the time tho, or i would've gotten in on it, great experience stick w/ it for the summer, but keep another job so you can still have money, listen to what they tell you stick to the program, it's all about voice inflection, and makin eye contact, and bein confident, the knives truely are some of the best out there, there's all kinds of other tips and methods that they'll teach you if you make it to the regional conferences they'll only make you better i don't know if you have turned it down yet, but i would recomend against it and the calling ppl isn't actually as bad as it seems you just read a spchiel and if they say yes you set an appt and go out there, family/friends really is the easiest, you'll be scrapin up ppl that you barely know before it's over, i was, and even then they were buyin 400 dollars worth of knives on a visit it's not rly telemarketing, and none of it is a lie in the true sense, just a tad misleading... but really try to do your best and try to go to the sales conference. lots of stoners out there to hook up w/ if it's worth nothing mroe than that |

| Two things. One, I always see those signs and know that they aren't worth the time, but I always wondered what they were all about. Very interesting. Two, about Nomad's comment, I would be pissed if my friends tryed to rip me off with knives. I have better things to waste my money on than knives. |

I have bought some cheap stuff before that went dull after a few years, or the handle fell off. The stuff these guys sell is much better than that. Chris D Chris | |

| Knives or no knives, It's still a sucky job. I say, run away and don't look back. If you want to work independently, mow lawns or something. You can make a hell of a lot more cash, and you don't have to pump your friends for income. |
