Hello everyone,

I have no idea why on Earth I've sat down to pen this short narritive, but here it goes......

Why is it that people who join chat servers, bulletin boards, and message boards are compelled to gain high "status" within their respective realms?
If I may digress a bit, I once was "addicted" to IRC (before I found better things to do It started as me chatting on the network harmlessly, then blossomed into me craving being a channel operator. I spent enough time in the various chat rooms to become an IRCop, or for those of you that don't know what that is, one of the highest ranking "officials" on the network. At this time, I was the ripe-old age of 13....lol. I don't understand what compelled me to do it, not even to this day. To qualify for the status of IRCop I had to dwell about in the various newbie help channels after, of course, I had attained channel op status in a few normal rooms. The reason for my speaking of this little hobby is so nobody gets offended if they fall into the following category:

People Craving Op/Moderator Status

This leads me to the real bread-and-butter of my little soap-box oration. Why do these dudes hang out on here and help do the job of the moderators? I understand wanting to become one, and I understand the whole power-complex which drives this yearning, but I don't understand why it has to be the case. For instance, let's say that one of you folks who keep posting comments such as "do a search, so and so, there are already many copies of your topic" actually attain mod status (in addition to the customary thanking by the real operator), then what? Okay, so you get newfound cyber-powers such as the ability to lock down a topic, or sensor it, basically do whatever you choose. That, my friend, is absolutely it. It's not that big of a deal to be a moderator or an operator, and in the process of trying to become one you end up looking like a major brown-noser. Don't get me wrong, I did it also. I used to hover around the ops and try and chime in whenever possible, but in the end I got much further on my knowledge and internet expertise than on sucking up. In conclusion, I feel it's time to just let the ops be ops, and if you want to be an op that badly you should just start your own server - then you can ban people like me if you choose

Dude.... I totaly agree with you! Is it me or do some of the moderators seem like they are on a power trip?

And why does it seem not a week goes by where some new member comes around and says " the moderators are on a power trip" How many power trips can we go on?

Wanna know a secret guys? I dont like this job. There i said it! When i took my days off from here it was some of the best time i have had in a long while. However i love this site, and i treat it like my baby so when you come along and just cant get the fact that there are about 5 rules you need to obide by here, i do what i have to do to preserve my baby. If you cant grasp that on a private server that there are rules than i am sorry for you cause life is really going to let you down.

Im through explaining to deaf ears what i do and why i act the way i do, if you dont like it then go sit in the corner or just stop posting, your just trying to lure us into a dog fight on here, something im not going to do anymore. See if i was on a power trip i would just single members i dont like out and erase all posts they make. Notice skibum that i have left your post in here, that should tell you something.

Quantum: I understand what your saying, ask anyone who has been on these boards awhile how i got the job and they will tell you im a little ass kiss who got on the mods and admins good side and was allowed in. I dont regret a minute of it. I used to do exactly what i do to threads now except, i couldnt close them thats all.

But i do agree some people on this page want to be mods too much. Trust me its not that great of a job, its fun and the people you work with are great but it seems as soon as you get a title people immediatly attack you due to you appearing as an "authority figure" Its total BS. It seems some people just wont like this site until its yahooka which it will never be.

Last little piece of insight i will give to you people, hi we are people too, not just names on the internet with a stupid title that allows us to close threads and move them. We have jobs, lives and many more things going on than this message board. Some of you make it out like we are just sitting on the board waiting to get off on closing a thread, how absurd.

Instead of sitting here flinging accusations and trying to stick it to us, why dont you take some time to see where we are coming from? Stop your *****ing and take a look at the full view of this. When i moderate i sound like a prick, i will admit it but you would too if every day you came here you had to repeat yourself to yet another person who doesnt seem to grasp how a message board operates.

So in closing, go for it dissect what i have said and turn it around to make me look like Hitler for all i care. Im through allowing you people to anger or upset me one bit, i have this job and im going to do this job until the other guys on this site tell me to stop, and im not going to let people's unfounded comments stop me.

I mean come on, why do you guys join up just to make fun of the people who are trying to keep our boards pure in a land of Yahookas? These guys are just doing their jobs, and they have to deal with the being called a nazi almost weekly. I know you guys wouldn't like it if I went to your (unpaid) job and started running my mouth about you being a nzai and the source of all evil and a saidist that gets off on making people's lives harder. Come on give them a break, their just tring to keep this place from going in a direction that no one wants it to go.

actually i can totally relate QuantumPhyzicz

i did the same thing, on newnet and efnet

i tried to get IRCop status, and i got very close to locop status for a while
i knew all the ircops, i was ops in multiple channels

sometimes i'd abuse my powers just because i could

but i mean i was young and foolish, and wasted so much time on IRC it's not even funny, but that's the way it goes

as for mods being on power trips... uhh no, they aren't

I can relate to a lot of what QuantumPhyzicz says, but honestly, Skibum5226 is just miffed because he posted in the Music forum a thread about Stoning Pets and it got deleted and he got a warning.

Personally, I can't remember why I ever wanted to do this, but I seem to be fairly good at it, so I just keep doing it. TC makes a few good points as well, but dude, you oughta switch to decaffienated.

Meanwhile, I'll sign off as I did when I was on mIRC and ICQ early on: Ya'll be cool and stay groovy, but more importantly, toke it easy.

i've never understood how people can be so obsessed with IRC, especially the people who just idle. idling has to be the stupidest thing ever. why the hell are you going to sit in a chat room if you're not going to talk? oh well, but anyways, as for the mods on this board, they are way more lenient than any other board i've been on, and every time a thread is closed or changed its always been for a good reason.

hey panama...i think i found out why just look here (second post down) even the admins had their chance to suck up

im gonna admit, i like to be the head of some things, just like on battle.net. i was the leader of a warring clan (back when bnet still had channel bots and operators) and we kicked ass. the members loved me and always thought it was a fun clan because of the leaders that led it. oh well, its weird when you have all this power and then you join something and you have absolutly none. i think all my "moderating wannabe comments" had to deal with my past occupation.

Wow, Leithreas, that's heavy. Ya know, everyone in that thread eventually became a moderator and a few became admins (Me, Hydrogrower and Butterfly Dreams). The onlys ones not to have made it yet are Righteous1 (dunno whatever happened to him) Bo-Battie (still too young) and Dr. Hashish (who was removed because he was too young.) Seems to me that youth is wasted on the young.
