Last night a friend and I decided to go out for a smoke. He wanted to poke through the rest of the ounce (it was actually 1.5 ounces, the new guy felt bad for the two day wait...). I showed it to him and he asked me to put it back inside. I tried to persuade him to keep it in the car, but he said 'What if the cops stop us'. I said fine, and showed him some of the seeds I pulled out of the bag that were in a matchbox.

We went to an underground parking lot of a chinese mall. No cops ever there, although I don't recall seeing that man in the booth watching the cameras.

We get down and start leaning against the car and smoking. Nice stuff. It was in the same minute that I had gotten down to the roach that my friend said 'watch out'. I saw a guard coming so I dropped it. Then I noticed it was an undercover cop, his badge around the neck.

He said 'Hello sir, you know smoking dope is illegal?' I answered yes. He then proceeded to ask how much we had (this rare time I had decided to bring only what was needed for one big joint, though we had maybe half a dime left that couldn't be rolled). I handed it over to him along with the roach. He mentioned somewhere during this whole thing that this was 'his time, and he wanted to be quick and honest' and that they were called for a break and enter (probably a car).

Then it was the standard name, location, etc. questioning. When he heard my friends name he said 'Have I talked to you before?' and apparently was suspicious of him. He asked if we had anything such as weapons or other drugs, because he was going to search the car. He then patted me down, saying 'Don't worry, you don't have to put youir hands behind your head, this isn't LA'.

Then he pulled out my matchbox. He looked through it and, in the low light, asked 'You keep the matchheads?!'. I am an honest person to everybody, but lying seemed like such a good idea. Although I knew inside that he either though they were MJ seeds, hash, or maybe something else. I said 'No sir, those are the seeds pulled from the stuff we smoked'. He handed them BACK to me, and I asked if he was sure he didn't need it.

Now here is where it gets very interesting.

He opens my baggie up and says 'You know, some people get sold dried tea leaves'. The look on my face was 'holy ****, there is no way I got sold fake stuff! I am really stoned right now, what is he saying...'. My jaw drops and I start saying something and he looks at me and says:

'Now I want you to look at my head when I say this, alright? Look_at_my_head. Some people get sold tea leaves. Isn't this just tea leaves?' As he nods his head.

I get it. I look to my friend and say 'Oh man, I think we just got ripped off!' He nods and instructs me to tear open the joint. I thought it was for evidence. He gives me the bag and tells me to spill it and grind it with my shoe, saying he doesn't want to be caught doing it.

So I got a warning. I said the most genuine THANK YOU VERY MUCH and just wanted to hug the man. I told him that I appreciated what he was doing and said something about giving hope for legalization

So that was that.

I was so high it seems like a dream now, but I remember how elated I was.

Wow, that's really cool! If it were me I wouldn't have understood what he was trying to do. This just proves my therory that there really are good people out there. Good story.

Wow man if that isn't the coolest cop i don't know who it could be.(maybe Niteshift ) You were right in wanting to hug him, i sure as hell woulda tried to. That's one of the first steps to legalization, if more cops were leniant like that we wouldn't have to run and hide everytime we want to take a toke.

Now i am gonna go smoke a bowl in honor of this cop and i think everyone else here should to.

That's exactly what I was about to say. I was shocked, thinking that he was accusing me of smoking tea leaves. LOL

Right afterwards, I was counting my blessings and rambling on about karma while my friend was actually pissed. I have no idea why, he doesn't understand how lucky we are.

So when I woke up this morning, I figured I can't just leave this whole situation as is... I need a moral to it.

I finally got off my ass and signed up for Habitat for Humanity. That way I'll see this situation as being a good thing, not just luck

i had someting like that happen to me once. i was on my to work and i got pulled over for an expired registration. it was not my car and the fact that it was not registared was not my falt, the cop seemed to underrstand this, but he still had to have to car towed and give me a ticket, because if i drove away and got into an accident, he would get in trouble for letting me go. he then said tat while he could search my car, he was not going to, but some one else might while the car was in possesion of the police. he then says that i can take what i needed from the car and anyting else that i would not want found if it was searched. it was a good ting that he did not, as i had 2 pipes and a maybe a joints worth of pot in there. i went to court to fight the ticket, cuz it was not my fault that the car was not registared and won, so no fine was paid. it was really weird when it happened, cuz i have had very few run ins with police and i always expect the worst when i do. he then gave me a ride to the station so i could call and get a ride, so i had to wait in a police station for an hour with all that stuff in my pocketts, which was rather stressfull, all i could think of was the k9 unit showing up and casually walking by and then the dog goes nuts when it passes me. but it did not happen, so all turned out well. also, as i was waiting for my ride, i sat ouside smoking a butt, the cop that pulled me over left the staion, but he had left is clipboard on the roof of his car, hoping to return the favor, i waved him down before it fell off and he lost it, if he had not been so nice to me, i doubt i would have said anything to him as he left..

I kinda had a similar situation when I was 16. My parents called the cops on me for breaking into MY OWN house. (They had changed the locks while I was away for a few days...ok, I ran away. They got the lock idea from a "tough love" group ) Anyway, when the cop pulls up, my dad is hollering "Arrest her, Arrest her, she's incouragable and a delinquent!" (Thanks Dad!) The cop, calmly explained that since he had reported me "missing/run away", he would have to take me down to the station, then call them up to come get me. Kinda stupid since I was already home.

However, my b/f at the time, who was with me, happened to have some weed on him. Like a 1/4 or something. He pulls it out and my dad is like "AH HA! You're going down buddy!" The cop rolls his eyes and cuffs him, then puts him in the back. They drive off down the road to the police station. I am furious at this point.

About an hour later, my b/f calls me, and sais the cop pocketed his stash, saying "I'm going to enjoy this in my Bob Marley tonight...Thanks Kid." He ended up dropping my b/f off at the station calling his Dad. His dad came and picked him up and took him to a friends house, knowing he wouldn't stay at home.

My b/f said he asked for some of it back, but the cop refused. He wasn't too pissed, except to know that the cop was going to smoke it and not share. He realized how lucky he was, as he had a long record already. Good thing I ditched that guy long ago.

PS My parents have chilled out tremendously since then. Those days were rough because no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't not controll me. I was living on my own the next year, and we got along great!

AndieBear, sounds like a tough time. Although I know someone who took his parents' car out a few years ago. They were pissed he didn't ask and called the cops and reported it stolen. Man was he in trouble

Notice how I mentioned I was too lazy to take the ounce and a half back to my house, and was trying to persuade him to just drive with it? Imagine he had just said 'whatever' and we brought it

But the cops was doing a half-ass job just to say 'I tried'. His 'search' consisted of looking in the glove compartment. Thank god he was a nice person, although he did put on a tough guy attitude for a bit

My dad had been screaming at the cop to search him for marijuana, so the guy did, there it was. Oops!

I also had the "borrow the car without asking" incident. Luckily, I returned home, after dropping several friends off before the cops got a chance to pull me over. Well, actually, I had to seriously deter my friend from mooning a cop we passed on the road, but he was going in the other direction. I was 15 then.

[NOTE: Kids, don't try these stunts (running away and taking the car for a joy ride). It isn't worth it when you get caught, and I got caught quite a few times. It was hell everytime. It took 2 kids, and 4 years of marriage/family life to prove I am trustworthy to them.]
