| Hi everyone i'm 13 years of age and never thought I'd end up writing this. It all started when I decided to bring my $100 glass, pipe with me.I was at a friends house. We planned on smoking that night in his room, like usual, and just chill out. Well, for Christmas my friend had gotton a $100 gift certificate for the mall. We decided to go over there so he could spend some of that cash. We got there at 6:00pm. We walked around for about 15 minutes, and found ourselves at a Herbergers. After about 10 minutes of shopping there, my friend found the sweater he liked, and he purchased it. We then started to leave, and right before we walked out the main entrance, my friend turned to me and said, "Karl, there are no sensors on these doors." I said, "Yah so?" He asked if he should grab one of the sweaters next to the door and walk out. Now, we have never done anything like this, we know people that have done it before, but never ourselves. I just said sure, just dont get caught. He walked over, put the sweatshirt into the bag we had our already-bought stuff in, and he started for the exit, the entire time I was waiting in the entrance hallway. When he finally came to leave, we started to walk out, and out of NOWHERE, a guy in a leather jacket grabbed us, flipped us around and gripped our necks, and said, "You even think about moving and im going to seriously bust your asses." He led us threw the entire store like this, and at one point looked at me and said, "You think this ****s funny?" and I had a complete strait face, too petrified to differ. Finally we got to the place he was taking us, a little white room, with a camera and about 500 video tapes, a desk, a computer, and a filing cabinet. He sat us in our chairs and started calling all the managers and what-not. Then he asked us if we knew what we did, and then ran us threw everything. He said that I held open the bag while my friend stuffed it with stuff. I said "Hey I didnt touch ANYTHING!!" He then looked at me and said "It doesent matter." Eventually, there were 6 of us in the room. For the next 2.5 hours he asked us questions like date of birth, etc. Then he put a paper in front of me, and said Sign it. I asked him what it was, and it was a paper saying I understand that I'm banned from Herbergers for life, and the mall for 6 months. I signed, as did my friend. The entire time I felt like puking. Mainly because of the pipe sitting in my pocket. Just then I realized my friend had a pipe, visene, a lighter, and about 3 medium sized kind buds on him. Finally the cop arrives, and stands my friend up and starts searching us. I thought it was over, we were busted. TO my amazement, he found nothing!! Then he handcuffed my friend and motioned for me. I stood up, the scariest 15 seconds of my entire life. He padded me down, and felt the pipe in my pocket and pulled it out. I swear to god, at that moment, I went 95% blind. Then he asked what it was and I said ohhh my goodd, kinda murmured out of my mouth. The other people in the room started cracking jokes then, like "Haha thats why he was sweating so bad this whole time!" I got handcuffed and they brought us to the squad car. We rode to the station, and walked to his cubicle, and started some more paperwork while we waited for our parents. While we sat, I noticed someone across the room with a cute little dog. He made me smile how he was playing. Then I noticed his owner started walking into the cubicle and I realized that wasnt any normal dog. Then the dog starts trotting to my friend. I thought "Oh no, not him too!!" Before the dog could get any closer, the officer who busted me, slid his chair in front of the dog and put my pipe in front of its nose. The officer said "Can you smell that buddie?? hehe" Basically, the officer saved my friend. Our parents finally got there, and the officer (good friend of my dads) explained everythign to him. Finally we drove him in silence. I got home and my dad took all my computer games away and said, I wouldent mind the pipe thing if your grades were better. This AMAZED me.Then I went to bed thinking how LUCKY I got off, and how shoplifting was such a HUGE mistake. I'm waiting to get my fines in the mail, and see what I gotta do for the marijuana charge. Im a minor. The thing that pisses me off though, is that I had a good relationship with my teachers, and now there all going to get told what happend. Not only that but my PARENTS. Theres alot I want to say, but this would be VERY long if I said it all. Basically this was a dumbass move on my part. My life was the best its every been since this happend. All down the toilet. To those of you that shoplift, it DOES NOT PAY having to go threw with this sh*t. In no way does shoplifting from stores payoff, everyone suffers from it. If you shoplift, your gonna get caught eventually. I decided to completely quit everything untill I had A's and B's in every class. That wont be too hard. Happy Newyears! ![]() |

| A--You're right. Shoplifting bad. Shoplifting stupid. B--You ought to thank God, or whomever, that the cop was a family friend. C--You ought to thank God, or whomever, that you have the Dad you have. I think. D--Don't let weed get in the way of your education. I smoke regularly, but WILL NOT let it affect my work, or my family. E--I personally think 13 years old is too young to have sex, too young to vote, too young to serve in the military, too young to legally drink, and WAY too young to be smoking weed. F--You are 13 years old. Consider this a lesson or two learned, remember it always, because when you are in your 30s, this will make a very funny story. My sermon is now over, and I always swore I would never sound like my father................. |

| Oh man, you have to be more careful. If you're going to do something illegal, make sure you don't have anything else illegal on you. More illegal items on you means more police charges which leads to harsher punishments. I know you're only thirteen, and judging from your post, very well-spoken, but try and be more low-profile next time, eh?

| Dude, you're thirteen! I mean, to be getting into the "habit" of breaking the law at such a young age, it doesn't hint at a pretty future. Now, I don't know you personally, so maybe that statement isn't relevant. Think about it, if you got away with getting that sweater, would you have tried shoplifting again? It is a very easy habit to get into, and I'm not proud to say that I can support that comment personally. However it shouldn't only be breaking the law, but should be disagreeing with your own morals too. It's not fair - your gain is someone else's lose. I disagree with the laws on marijuana, so whilst illegal, I'm personally okay with my use of it. Anyway learn your lesson and good luck!

| In imationkarl's defense, his friend was the one who attempted to steal the sweater, not imationkarl. I'm not justifying his actions, just defining the difference between stealing and watching something get stolen. And although petty theft at a young age may not hint at a bright future, the fact that imationkarl learned his lesson and swore off the weed until he gets good grades most certainly does. Edit - Haha, I just said 'the weed'. I sound like my mom. ![]() |

| Yeah, I guess you have a point Stewpad, however both boys would likely have been "encouraged" if the theft was successful. And I certainly encourage responsible use of any drug - legal or otherwise, so I'm glad imationkarl is doing just that! |

| Hey all, I've got something to add as well. Don't razz on him because he's 13 years old. 13 Year olds are not the same 13 year olds that we were ( I'm 17 now ). I went back to elementary school and the kids in grade 6 are smoking weed and having 'relationships' etc....it's even worse in middle school, as I did work experience there for a few weeks. I think that these young teens are starting the same things I started in grade 9 - except a lot earlier....and us older folks need to deal with it and stop telling them they are too young ...etc... I was horrified when my niece swore around me - but then realized she is in grade 7, and I was cussing in grade 7 too...we need to get the image out of our head that these are innocent young kids, because they are doing the same things we did...and even earlier... I think this is the same misconceptions that our parents have towards us - except at a much more extreme scale..if only we could open their eyes.... |

| Sounds like you're actually pretty responsible. You're gonna get a few members here knocking on you for being so young, but as long as you can keep it together you're fine. You wrote that post in a mature way so we all give you props Good luck with the community service and whatever else they throw at you. I think if you fight the shop lifting ticket you might get it dropped. Good luck. Breaking the law at a young age by no means points to a grim future, kids can mature a lot in a few years and be a totally different person.
