me and a friend smoked in my room, first mistake. My dad's girlfriend strolls in, "why does it smell like marijuana in here??!" me - "....I don't know..". Long story short, my dad gives me a good scolding but the thing IS! He made me sign a contract in which I solemnly swear to not do any "controlled substances" until I am of legal adulthood (Im only 16 !!!! Two years of no smoke at all!?) What do I do??

That contract isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Unless he's a notary, or a lawyer.

But, you're a minor, first of all, and cannot enter into a contract without his legal consent. Obviously, he is making you sign the contract, so you have his consent.

But, I don't think a homemade contract is considered legal.

My parents were looking for a house, and we had a realtor on contract for like 3 months, and we went without her, and got a house, that was for sale by owner, and we didn't have to pay our realtor anything, because the contract wasn't legal, it was more of a bluff than anything.

Smoke if you want, just be careful. And, don't do it in his home. I smoke, even though my mom asks me not to do it in my room, but she doesn't really care, because she doesn't want me to get busted out somewhere else smoking.

You evidently don't enjoy smoking marijuana a great deal if your going to even think about letting some dumb contract your dad made get in the way of your smoking...

He doesnt need a contract to ground you, backhand your ass, kick you out of the house, or do anything because he is your father. PEOPLE, the contract was a way of making you promise him. Its not like he wil use it in court, he is just trying to get you to stop smoking.......why not talk with him. If you want to smoke, get together a solid arguement and talk.......and if not, then your gonna have to wait 2 years....he is your father...

Wait so your saying if he doesn't come up with an arguement for his father about why he should be able to smoke marijuana, then he is going to have to wait 2 years to smoke... that is just absurd.

Don't argue, let your dad think you stopped , smoke when your not at home, and do not come home high.

I always figured the thing to do is just to be succesful, and then it's impossible for someone to comment on your marijuana habit.

This is your father........the one who can take your car keys, the one who you will expect to pay for college.......the one who does a lot for you....yes, my opinion is that if your father doesnt want you to smoke until your 18, you should abide by that. I was trying to get you to show your father you are making an intelligent decision and open his eyes up to your arguement a bit. But most of the adults on the board will agree....going behind your fathers back will do you no good in the long run

I'd agree with you if marijuana was a bad thing...but it isn't. Anyway, what pappy doesn't know, won't hurt him.

now that its out in the open go to erowid, the mj.com site, the canadian senate reort, and anything scientific you can find about the positive effects of marijuana then print off everything you find, tell him that you are 16 years old, old enough to move out on your own, tell him that you believe you are old enough to make a decision about what you want to puut into your body, show him how the canadian senate recomeded legalizing marijuana for people 16 years and up, tell him that you have weighed the positive and negative effects and have made an informed decision, show him some info and try to get him to read some of it, if it all goes south jsut end it off by saying that you will not stop smoking because you were busted or becuase of his request or contract, and that you will continue to smoke regardless of his position on it, tell him that you would like to have his approval to use it responsibly and that if he doesnt give approval you are going to do it anyway

I agree that you should have an adult conversation with your father about smoking pot. But I don't think you should tell him that you are legally able to move out on your own, cuz then you could find your ass in the street. But do talk to him and explain to him why you smoke. And listen to him talk as well. He might have had bad experiences with pot or something. But whatever you do, don' hide it.
