Wink Time for a change!

I just found this site and have with a certain amount of trepidation signed up. I am almost 52 years old. I am a dedicated family man who has been working in the same profession for thirty years. I have also been using marijuana for that long. There is no reason why anyone should get in trouble with the law simply because they would like to use marijuana. It has gotten to the point where I am that even to try to engage in discussion to legalize marijuana could have very negative consequences. Clearly the worst consequence of marijuana use is getting arrested. Nothing else comes close in my opinion. It is time for this nonsense to stop. I wish I knew of a way to help bring about marijuana legalization which did not blow my cover. I live in the sticks and do not feel that it would be a good move to become too well known for my views. It could adversely impact my situation. The irony is that if I don't start saying something to someone the liklihood of any substantive change is obviously diminished. At least I have found this forum.

Welcome to M.Com, man.

I'm 42 and I've been involved in the movement righteously for about 15 years. It's good that you finally decided to join in. Now, if you can get two more people and so on we'll win this inane "war" on drugs and end the prohibition of marijuana.

Sounds like you are in posistion where if you say what you think you may end your career. I wish it was legal too and I can't voice my views at work/town either.

Hmmmm, witty comment....you've foiled me this time, but one day I'll think of something. One day...

Introverted activist? That might be a little hard. The best thing you can do right now is educate yourself on marijuana, hemp, their history. Want some links? And if you ever want to help with legalization, check norml.org, they most likely have chapters in New York

What are some good links for overall history of Cannabis, and a whole load of facts. I know alot about it, but I should know more

It is good though because I got in a class debate with my teacher about Legalizing Marijuana. I won It is strange though, how so many people believe all of the propaganda that is out there.

Hi True- you and I are of the same era and we've spent the last 30 years paranoid as hell and waiting for "them" to do something to change these silly laws. Well, "they" aren't going to unless we begin to speak out and make our vioces heard. I know it is a scary thought but write letters. Go to norml.org or mpp.org they have form letters that you can edit or just sign and e-mail them away to your elected officials ( I really don't think they will come and get you if you do) It's time for us to get at least a little pro-active- I mean I want to be able to smoke in the the old folks home, don't you???

Well True I got you by a couple of years, so sit back and enjoy your youth.

And pass your wisdom down to this board. This legalization question is complex. I totally agree that the penalties are out of proportion to the crime. Personally, I'd like nothing better than to walk into a Starbucks and order a gram of Bubble Gum like it was Amsterdam. But total legalization? Hmmmm. Traffic fine level? I don't know. What I do know is that smoking mj does have consequences. MJ can dominate lives and create strong psychological dependencies. Just reading this board proves that. Do the kids who post really think there's nothing wrong with the secrecy and double lives and LOL Vulcan mind-go-blanks? And that there is no consequence to having a force in your life that makes them want to suck down as many juicy nugs as their burnt lips can stand to get just as very high as possible, skipping all that "every thing in moderation" bit?

Yeah, there's positive sides. But it ain't Evian water.

Enough about that. Welcome aboard, share your thoughts, PM me anytime about this moment in your arc of life.

Thats why we need age restrictions. A teenager on alcohol isn't going to function well, either is one on constant video games or another obsession.
