Everytime me and my buddies go somewhere we get the dreadful eye. Or if we go into a store an employee will follow us around all over and annoy us. And the only reason is because my boys have dreads, and dont follow the typical crowd of blue collored Americans. I believe that people should look whats inside someone and not judge them on their looks. I wish that people could accept others for who they really are. Does this type of thing happen for anyone else?

Are you a teenager? If so, that rightly explains your situation. Teens are watched like hawks in stores, especially ones without camera systems, or that are very large making it easy to pocket some things. It isn't new, nor is it right - but it's life.

We are all 18, we act mature, we dont goof around, or get out of hand or anything. But I do agree with you on the teenage theory, It does suck. o well whatre you going to do.

Back in the day when me and my bother were teens, we used to have those HUGE bulky starter jackets. Whenever we would go ANYWHERE, the people in the store would follow us around like hawks. I remember this one time we went into an all purpose store in NY, sells everything electronics, jewelry, houseware, hardware etc... Well me and my bro were just wandering around while my mother bought something and we were in the jewelry section. After around 10 minutes we noticed that this guy turned up EVERYWHERE we were and it didn't seem like he was buying anything. After a while I started to test my theory and I would walk somewhere very quickly and about 1 min later, this guy would turn up right next to me. Turns out that this guy actually worked for the store as security. He would pretend to be a customer just to keep tabs on people. He wasn't doing a very good job being subtle about it!

when the employee keeps asking you guys if you need any help or if they keep peeking at you guys how bout you go up to them and ask them if they need any help...your gonna get stares no matter what though...i mean i stare at peeps with dreads...just to see how neat it is and how it's growing...maybe they're just curious

I get discriminated everywhere i go because im a teenager, and just for the stupidest things, they way i dress(hoody, slighty bagy jeans) people just say, oh hes got nothing important to say, dont listen to him hes just a teenager (and these are people neraly 3 times my age, geting paid the same as me) come on, whos on top of the situation here

Ya, I'm watched alot too. My mom used to be a secret shopper/security guard and she used to follow every teenager with the camera, or follow them until they left.

The best plan is to stand up straight, smile at everyone and for god's sake open your eyes up completely. I've walked into stores with the clerk staring grudgingly at me but when I wave and smile they perk up and start counting money and whatnot. It doesn't always work, but it is still a good idea.
