| First off, I just joined this forum so hi to all Do you think its wrong to convince your non-stoner friends to try smoking? A couple of my friends are opposed to smoking, and I have been trying to convince them to try it. I think its dumb not to try it, just like its dumb not to try a foreign food. Anyways, I feel like im one of those bad guys from DARE, the guy that offers you pot and then they teach you a list of ways to say no. lol. Anyways, am I a bad influence, or am I just trying to enlighten my friends? |

| Personally, I never pressure anyone into anything they don't want to do, the end result is never very fun if someone is more or less forced into it. That being said, i would definetly tell/persuade someone to try weed before knocking it (thanks ben harper), especially if their reasons for not smoking are ricidulous, or their misconceptions about the pot are way off base. The best thing to do is logically and informatively explain and discuss with your friends why they should at least *try* it. But if they are clearly reluctant and may even have some "close-to-home" personal reason for not smoking (ie: loved dies from lung cancer, etc.) I would back off. edit: oh and welcome to mj.com ![]()

| I think all you need to do is offer, let them make their own mind up about it. If you persist in them trying it, they are probably more likely not to try. But also if they dont try it I ask them to respect my decesion too do so, Ive told them straight up what its about, and what i think of it. Is it wrong to convince them to smoke? Only if your reasons for them too smoke are unjustified. Leave it to them to expand their own mind.

| pressuring them into doing something they don't want to do is wrong. Telling them the truth about a harmless drug, and offering then some isn't.

| One of the rules of proper weed etiquette is never try to force somebody to smoke who has made it clear they don't want to. Just do like THCinferno said, and be well informed and ready to give them the facts if they have any questions. That's pretty much all you should do, because trying to push weed on somebody can really piss them off (I know this from having it done to me before I started smoking). So, just be cool, patient, and know your stuff incase they have questions. Oh, and welcome to cheaptalk. -S. Reefer-

| Hey, it depends on the context. For instance, I have friends who I know would like to smoke weed, however they are either to timid to ask or be assertive, or are perhaps a bit wary to try. Keep in mind most most people grow up in the DARE/weed is evil universe, so it's a new experience for them. Plus the inplications of breaking the law can't be helpful. So if you think they want to, ask them. If you think they won't, try asking, but don't be too aggressive in your assertations. Welcome to this place.

| Oh come on people don't blame DARE. Everyone knows it doesn't work and nobody really listens to it. Dont force someone to smoke. Lead your life and let them lead theirs. Depending on what kind of job they want in the future turning them into stoners could seriously jeopardize it. I know I've conducted a bunch of background investigations where the people were disqualified because of excessive MJ use or selling it even once.
