Thumbs down Hawaiis fourth shark attack this year

Call me a paranoid spoiled brat sissy who doesn't take advantage of where he lives, but I do have a fear of sharks and even other sea creatures. I do not often go in the water and don't surf. Kinda ironic considering I don't live far from the beach, and the water is pretty warm and the beaches are nice.

"It was Hawaii's fourth shark attack this year. Honebrink said Hawaii averages three or four shark attacks a year. Hawaii's last shark attack this year was Oct. 5, when a woman was bitten while swimming near Kihei on Maui, Honebrink said."

I live in Kihei, Maui by the way. Although shark attacks are not a daily occurance, they are not the most uncommon peices of news either. It scares the crap out of me and even though its highly unlikely that id ever be attacked, the thought alone tends to scare me away from the water. I personally prefer to be on the water in a boat isntead of in the water.

I've always wanted to learn how to surf, but I'm scared ****less off sharks. If I lived where you live, and heard that news...I'd never get in the water. I'd just sit my ass on the beach, smoke a J, and wear a necklace made of shark teeth just to spite those bastards

I can't really say I blame you. Im scared of sharks just as much as you.

P.S. This reminded me of a Wildboyz show I saw where they jumped off the boat into the water right next to a GREAT WHITE!

Ya places and people was the obvious location, didn't occur to me at the time. I don't think 4 shark attacks have to do with a crisis. I was just thinking off-topic news = world in crisis. Thanks for moving it Larmer. I should have known better.

I really should go swimming soon, I need to get more of a tan i'm so white when I go out I look like more of a tourist then.... the tourists. Freaking sad I tell ya. Spending too much time reading up on scientology so I can free my sister from their brainwashing... its becoming an obsession...

I have been an avid surfer for most of my life . I can tell you that shark attacks are a pretty uncommon occurrence . Your odds of getting bitten by a shark walst in the water are SLIM TO NONE .
Actually I think there has been more shark attacks on surfers in California then Hawaii because of the fact that surfers in California where wet suits most of the time and can appear to be a seal to a shark .

Sharks actual don't like to eat humans because of the fact that we simply aren't that tasty , our body's don't have much meat on them , so a shark will normally ( if it strikes you at all ) take one bite and then spit you out !

So , your fear of being eaten by a shark if you go into the ocean , is about as solid as your fear of the dark .

You're a paranoid spoiled brat sissy!...you told us to call you that, I'm just doing what you asked. [You know I'm joking, HN, just bustin balls]...
Sharks don't like the taste of humans, so they won't eat you...they'll just chew you up, then spit you out because the flavor doesn't suit them. So no need to worry about getting eaten, just chewed all to hell. I do have to say though, if I lived where you are, I'd be darker than sh!t [& we all know how dark that is] because I'd be on the beach every day. Especially with the beautiful weather you guys have, I'd be living outside. As long as I had an Internet hook-up...if not, you can reach me at the Marriott.

Bahahah you live in hawaii and you are afraid of sharks? man... yeah the chance of being bit is very slim.. and they mostly attack surfers because they look like seals from under the water. i dont think you have to be scared stepping into the water!

Think about it this way

You're in their territory. They were there long before people ever were. To them, you are a foreign species, an invader.

First of all i hope for the best for the girl that got bitten. I mean its a big thing all of a sudden loosing your arm.Especially while doing something that you love.

I remember in my surfin years in Fla i used to see big shadows going underneath me while surfin in the deeper parts of the reef.
Sh!!T that was scary.

I practically grew up in the water (snorkling, spearfishing and scuba diving) so i aint really afraid to see an underwater creature with a mask. I ve seen a bit of funky wildlife and have been bitten by it

(not a great white of course!!!!)

I would definatly though be more scared if i was swimming on the surface, cause u cant see whats underneath coming up...

PS: LOL ZOLT
