They didn't give me enough time to move anything, stonecold. Plus when they left, they said they wouldn't be coming back. Plus, the only thing that was in plain sight was a gravity bong sans bowl, which they originally didn't even know was drug paraphenalia.

Oh yea...they also said that me being high and the room smelling like incense was enough reason to come in.

Anyway...anyone else been busted in college? I'm really curious about what will happen to my financial aid and housing-I know I'll probably lose them, but I'd like to know if it's a sure thing or not.

EDIT-was just looking around my room, and the cops took ALOT of stuff. Here's a list of all the non-illegal stuff they took.

-Bob Marley T-Shirt
-Bob Marley Hoodie
-2 Bags of rolling tobacco
-3 Packs of zig zags that were with the rolling tobacco
-A felt tipped marker (wtf?)
-5 Lighters

This is what happened:

As they were in the room talking to you they started to respect and admire you beautiful taste in clothes therefore took your clothes for their own personal gains.

hehehe, conspiracy!

If there is one thing I've learned is that you're not always as screwed as you may sound. Why do I say this? Well because my friend got arrested with 33 pills of an off topic amphetamine and 2 other jars of off topic painkillers. Has he served any jail time? no. Will he? probably not Why? it's his first offense and he's only 18. Is our legal system messed up beyong belief? definitely

Stick in there bud. Don't give in to the cop games and get yourself in more trouble. Stick with your story and play the waiting game, guarantee you'll end up on top.

Good luck mate,

Aw man that sucks. Sorry about all that. It's really bad you have a criminal record. here in Canada a first offense with a small amount is a slap on the wrist with confiscation. Second offense is a fine depending on the amount. Then I think you keep getting fines until like 5 offenses or something. Anything under 30 grams is a fine and decriminalized.

Plus I'm a young offender so I wouldn't have a criminal record even if I had like 50 pounds in my room.

about your financial aid....unfortunatly you'll more than likely lose it

It seems like you understand the law on marijuana somewhat, so you may be able to get them for not having any consent, I don't think the scent of inscense is enough for them to search your room.

I hope it all works out for you man.

They spared very little when it comes to stealing your possessions. I recommend you pm Nightshift out of curiosities sake to see if stealing that clothing, ect.... was legal. Thats just really messed up that they would take that stuff unless it had marijuana on it, well it would still be messed up but it would make a little bit more sense. Good luck fighting the system. What school do you go to? I'm sure when you began the semester, you signed an agreement as to your residence conditions. Read this over in detail, and make sure you get the lawyer a copy of it. Check to see if it mentions anything about inspection, it's your only hope. Can the RA come in to do inspections without express consent?

Also check the school policy as it relates to personal property and privacy. I'm thinking you're SOL since most schools don't consider dorms to be "private", they're basically in the same class as lockers.

Given the stakes here, research the local legal representation, I'm sure there's somebody in a university town that has handled these types of cases before. The most important thing is to save your academic career here, and the expenses will be worth it. Explain the implications to your parents, and see if there's any chance that they can help with the legal costs.

If your school is a rare exception to privacy in dorms, you're standing on somewhat decent legal grounds. A good lawyer will be able to firm up the position, this one does seem arguable...

I've always thought that the best case against weed in Canadian courts would be one resembling this. A student with (presumably) no record to date who will face consequences far outweighing the severity of the crime. This is the type of case that could be argued on Charter grounds.

Good luck with this, and definitely keep us informed, I'm sure everyone here is concerned...

Larmer: Unfortunatly, anyone affiliated with the university is allowed to enter my room and look around. SOL indeed. There's no way in hell I can afford a lawyer, either-no job right now, and I only have about $1400 saved up, most of which is doubtless going to end up paying fines and other pork affiliated costs.

My parents were less than helpful. We got in a huge fight, in which they pretty much constantly repeated that weed was illegal (duh). They said that they won't help pay any costs or fines...not even the bail bondsman, who I only had to get because I had to be out early enough in the morning to catch the flight home TO SEE THEM. Also said that they want me to go to some sort of drug counseling, and that if I smoke weed again and they hear about it, they'll cut me off.

So...the upshot is that I'll end up getting a part time job to pay for costs, at the very least, as well as a criminal record to aid my search for employment. Probably going to end up quitting pot for awhile, due to piss tests. Even if I don't get probation, I'll take an extended break anyway, as I've been smoking way too much lately anyway, so much so that I've been getting pretty antisocial, and won't have a place to smoke anymore.

Bummer.... ****ing prohibition what a waste, obviously causing more harm then pot ever did. That sucks that your parents weren't very sympathetic, ugh... I guess you'll be joining me and vaya in the sober life for a while, I wish you didn't have to do so under such crappy conditions and hardly out of free will. Good luck with the job and I hope the bail bond doesn't cost you too much money. I hope that narc trips and breaks a bone. Sending my prayers and empathy, HN-
