Default The great gas gouge

I got an idea for this from the thread about the cars we drive.

We all know that right now the pumps are raping us but im curious as to how bad you are feeling the increase in gas prices? Whats your local fill'er up station charging you per gallon on the typical 87 grade petrol?

Massachusetts is checking in at $1.88 - $1.94 and in some places closer to Holyoke and the eastern side of mass prices have risen above $2.00 a gallon. All of which is an extreme rip off.

So how bads the damage in your area?

And also whats with the rise in price anyways, it seems without fail the prices rise every spring and summer when people are trying to travel the most. And theres no escaping it because in most places public transportation just isnt an option. Personally i blame automobiles that consume more gas than their better mileaged counterparts. I tell ya i was eyeing a Toyota Prius when they first came out and now it seems like if this keeps up im going to just go ahead and get one when i build up my credit.

So lets hear it, your gas gouge prices and your humble opinions on what the hell is going on at the pump.

*edit* by the way you might want to check out this website, log in and post your local price there for others to see, its a neat little place to see the effects our nations reliability on automobiles stabs us in the long run. http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgas_index.asp

yea I'm in boston and right now it's running from $1.94-$2.01 a gallon. It's absolutely rediculous. I have two days of school left and I can't wait because that commute is what's been killing me. I plan to do ALOT of bike riding this summer if it's gonna cost me $30 to fill my gas tank. I drive a 2002 Taurus and it takes about 340 mi to go from Full to Empty. I can't buy bud if all my money is tied up in gas. I guess I'll just have to create my own highly combustible substance so i can patent it and be rich. and oh yea, use it in my car!

i dont see how large vehicles are to blame. It's the supply that's the problem and with George W. Bush ruining relations with OPEC (? i think thats the org) who knows what will happen. all travel should be magnetic!

Here in NY (from the Ontario lakeshore through the St. Lawrence) it's 1.99 - 2.29. Across the border in VT it's 1.89, I think...haven't been there to refill my tank yet.

Between 80 and 90 cents for a litre.

Which is like 3.25ish a gallon.

And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable what then?"

Its up to $2.04 here now. Damn. At this rate im going to have to start tossing my girlfriend some gas money to come see me cause thats just nuts.

The reason why i think its the more gas consuming vehicles is because they consume more therefore making supplies lessen the the cost rise. I think if we all drove better mileaged cars we wouldnt see this problem but everyone thinks SUVs are so cool and that their car needs to rival an army tank in size to be safe. Uh hello, drive safe to be safe, a bigger car just means more damage to the other guy you rearend because you were too busy talking on your cell phone. But trying to explain this to people with money is pointless, they only see things as status symbols, if you want to look cool you get the SUV if you want to look stupid you get a little boxey car like a Corsica which isnt the best looking thing but gets you around pretty cheap. Theres just no talking sense into people these days.
