So what are your thoughts on telling your parents you smoke? If you have, what was it like, did you get the reaction you were expecting? I really want to tell mine but once I actually say the words I dont want to be thinking " Oh ****, what the hell am I thinking, this was the stupidest idea ever!!" know what I mean?

Like tonight my friend pulled into the driveway to give me my new pipe. I came in like a minute later and my dad looks at me with a smile "drug deal..lol" and I said yeah of course, laughing. Then my mom comes down and says "getting some new technology..lol" and I said im not a damn spy and laughed. I cant tell if there just joking like that or if I said "yeah...it was a deal" would they be like "what the ****!!" We have never discused MJ before and theyve made no hits that they ever did it. I would like to think they dont have a problem with it. Im not a dead beat or anything. Im 20, I have a good job, a car, and im moving out in the next few months. Plus they always come down and say "your listening to our music! get your own" joking about the fact that 70's had great music. Anyway, share your thoughts. peace

I am really happy you're even considering telling them. I wish more smokers would at least try and be honest with their parents about it.

I say you should go for it. sit them down and let them know you're gonna tell them something important, and maybe start out by inquiring as to whether or not they used pot. let them know you're a responsible smoker. have some printed material ready for them that dispels the myths or something that gives information that you feel might be good for them to know. let them know you are telling them because you want to have an honest open relationship with them and you don't want to feel like you're being sneaky about it. from the way you talk about them it sounds like you are already pretty close.

I told my mom about a year ago. accepting it was a slow process for her. she never tried to punish me for it because she's a passive person and has very rarely tried to dicipline me, but i knew she was angry and troubled by it. after a few months of smoking in the backyard, our landlord came to live in one of the apartments on the property (its a 4-apartment house), so she basically told me i HAD to smoke inside from now on. She's gotten a lot better about it, she understands now that the commercials on TV are bull**** and that I am responsible enough to make my own decisions. She's been VERY respectful. I think the ultimate acceptance of it thus far was around christmas time we were shopping and I bought a pot-leaf necklace at the mall, and she asked me if she could give it to me as a christmas present. I was like "are you sure?? it has a pot leaf on it" she was like "ahhh its ok, whatever."

also, having my mom accept it really has made me able to accept it myself. i no longer feel guilty when i light up, because i am no longer betraying anyones trust or doing something i "shouldn't".

but enough about me, i have a feeling you will be fine, your parents sound like good people, and if you're moving out in a couple months it should be even less of a problem. and if you're really into smoking they will probably find out sooner or later, so its better to let them know rather than to get caught.

And don't tell them while you're baked haha

my momma when i was younger was the most anti drug person on the entire earth. now that im 22 and have a child of my own as well as a stable job and home of my own; she's a Lot better about the fact of me smoking.

she asks that i dont do it in her house or around her... and i dont. she knows when im high and lets me know if i need a sprtiz of parfume or whatnot. ive even asked my brother about getting me some weed in front of her (which to my surprise she was totally chill with)

take it slow and remember, your parents brought you here they can send you back, (or at least thats what my momma brainwashed me into thinkin...) so either way respect their wishes yo.

Hey guys, thanks alot for the responses. Well, tonight at 7 I bit the bullet and did it. I pulled them both into a room and asked them to sit down. So I asked them what they though of weed. We talked for about an hour, no yelling just talking. Nothing was thrown and none died so it was alright. My dad threw out the tyical "its addictive, its a gateway drug" blah blah. He said he's never tried it but my mom did admit to it. Also found out my uncle does it.
In the end, my mom said she dosnt care at all as long as I dont drive and smoke. She tried to drive that one home and out of respect im going to listen. I told her that I wouldnt do it again but that they need to give a little. Either letting me smoke in my room, on the front steps of whatever. And they agreed to sleep on it. All and all it went pretty much as expected and I feel a HUGE weight has been taken off my shoulders. Thanks for reading. Peace.

GRATS MAN! my mom caught me in the act today. i know exactly how you feel. my mom pretty much said the same dont smoke and drive, dont do it every day, dont smoke ciggarettes. its crazy but i feel much better. ill tell my dad after i move into my dorms and everything next year so he doesnt kill me LOL
