I'm pretty sure that DaDornta recently posted that he rcvd a check for living in Alaska and spent it on gold and silver. He has a thread about it - search if interested. Maybe he'll see this thread and let you know the specifics

Alaska is beautiful and I would love to visit one day. Living is another story...I'm not sure I'd like the 20hrs of sun in the summer and 18 hours of darkness in winter. Seems like it would be difficult for me to adjust. It would be cool to experience it though

Yes, its called a PFD (Permanent Fund Dividend) every citizen of Alaska, regardless of age (must have lived here for 2 years to receive them) gets one.

This year it was like 900 dollars, its dropped signifncantly from the 1,500 it use to be. It is the surplus of money that Alaska gets from all it's oil and stuff I believe, and it is just fed back into the community. I just turned 18, so I can actually get my own (if your under 18 your guardian has the right to use it as they please). Some familyes with like 8-9 kids, imagine how much money they get? A lot of people rely on this because of the high cost of living in such a state.

Remember if anyone is planning on coming up to AK feel free to shoot me some questions via PM, I'd be happy to oblige and provide any and all information.

Spiral, someone posted earlier in the thread that it was legal to have weed as long as it was 1 oz or less. Is that true? Also, if it is, do employers still drug test for MJ in AK?

Just curious, thanks!

ive been to jeuno(spelling is wrong i know)i was going to move there but my family hated it. it rained for a whole week,we didnt like it.

the scenery is great up here especially in the summer.one of my favorite things about living up north is that i live in a forest.if i want to i can go for a walk and just smoke a bowl in the woods
and not have to worrie about cops or narcs seeing you.

looks like we live pretty close spiral [mod note--you know as well as I do that offering hookups on the board is not alowed by the posting guidelines.

Cool another Alaskan. The few, the proud

Tree Fitty, weed is illegal here. I think your are allowed under STATE law to possess an 0z. in your home. But you see FEDERAL law says all marijuana is illegal, it supersedes it and your basically shit out of luck. In all honesty though, people just don't seem to care - I was smoking a joint in my backyard once (mind you I live in a upper middle-class neighborhood) and my neighbor let his dog outside and was mowing his grass. I was scared shitless but kept smoking trying to act like a cigarette, but he "Smells like the old days" I just laughed, put it out and waved, he waved back and went inside.

Equilibrium I will be speaking to you soon

The PFD is pretty interesting...

They take a percentage of the oil the producers get out of the ground, sell it, and invest it into the stock market. The "dividend" is the interest off that investment. Here's the wiki entry about it, it shows all the past pay-out ammounts...
