Hi guys, I'm studying abroad next semester just outside of Dublin and I'm wondering...is it tough to find hookups? What's the pricing like? And are there any rules or things to keep in mind about smoking in Ireland or Europe in general as opposed to America?

Also, how much do the police care about it? Is it a huge issue or are most officers pretty chill about it?

I go to the University of Limerick. It's 3 hours southwest of County Dublin. Where are you studying? We should chill when you're here..

I find it very difficult to get herb here, it totally blows... and when I do get it, it's outrageously expensive. 2 grams of mids/schwag for 50 euros. It's fucking RETARDED. No chronic this side of the Atlantic. I've had some decent mids here but it wasnt the same. I can get hash but I don't know anything about the quality. It gets me high. But sometimes it gets me tired, worse than with herb. It's a really iffy situation. And I'm def not into alcohol like the Irish are. They're complete alcoholics, well, 90% of them.

As for cops, I find it's a lot easier to get high here, and make purchases and shit. The guards (gardai) only come when they're needed. They don't patrol like in the US. At least not in Limerick. There are plenty of chill spots around Ireland too.

I'm studying at NUI Maynooth, or at least I hope I am (the application goes in in April although I've already been approved by my college to go). So I'm going to be pretty close to Dublin but still able to have the small-town thing going on, which I'm excited about.

Are you an American, then, studying in Ireland? That's cool, do you go to Limerick full-time or are you there for exchange or something? I was considering applying to go abroad there, actually, but apparently not that many people from my college go there so they usually recommend a more popular place like Maynooth or Cork that the study abroad office has more familiarity with.

I guess it's not absolutely imperative that I get a hookup over there but, like you, I'm not a huge drinker so it'll be interesting to see what happens on the weekends...what are weekends usually like, just a lot of pub-hopping or is it more like here in America (or at least Vermont where it's cold) where kids just kind of hang out in their rooms and do their thing on campus?

I'm really jealous of you guys. You get to go to school and see all the culture of Ireland. I'm Irish and Dutch, and I would love to get to Ireland and The Netherlands in my lifetime. Of course because my ancestors are from there, but also because it would just be cool to get the hell off this continent, just once!

I'm an American, yeah. I'm going here for the full four years. I'm studying Irish music, and I'm a freshman..

I hate the small-town thing, but I guess that's how it goes if you're from somewhere like San Diego. The weekends here are soooo boring. I'm so bored as I'm typing this!!!! Nothing really interesting or different to do. I went out ''on the piss'' every night last semester, and pretty much wasted all my money getting wasted. It's not even fun anymore. People here drink like it's water. When I talk about drinking in moderation, I actually stick to it. The people here say they'll be sober for a week, and then the next night, they're in the pub. Then they ask me, ''Oooh how come ye arent drinkin then??!!'' I just don't get it. It's pretty much eating, shopping, movies, drinking, and smoking (if you have it). Sure, you can get a job or whatever, but there's nothing fun to do around here. I mean, I guess you'll be closer to the action in Dublin. I've never actually been to the Baile Ath Cliath (dublin in irish) but I hear nothing but good things. Limerick is just a little bit...lame. The people get on my nerves. I feel like I'm ''in the closet'' as a stoner. Nobody understands it here. Everyone here believes that weed is 100x worse for you than cigarettes, yet they all smoke ciggs and are pretty much ignorant of weed. They all roll ''joints'' of tobacco sprinkled with a tiny speck of hash, and claim to get stoned from it. I don't even bother wasting my lungs on that shit. I don't click with anyone here!!!

Ok, I'm not trying to make Ireland sound bad or anything. It really is a good cultural experience, it's given me a lot of perspective that I really needed. It's also enabled me to travel around the UK and France a bit...I just grew up in a place where the sun is always shining, it's WARM, there's a beach, chill people everywhere, and weed everywhere Here it's the exact opposite... I get more and more homesick and depressed everyday. But the music keeps me going. Oh well, May 30th and I'll be back in Cali
