in order to see everything in la, how long should you stay there (vacation). and what hotels do you reccomend?

there is A LOT to see in LA, i mean, there's no way to see everything....i've been living here for 4 years and i havent seen half of even the touristy things to see....what sorts of sights did you have in mind?


a hotel depends on what parts of LA you want to see. most of the touristy stuff is near-ish to downtown, so you might want to get a hotel around there. it's not too far from hollywood, santa monica, venice, places like that. if you want to see orange county, that's like 45 min away from downtown, i'd recommend getting a hotel in orange county if you want to see those areas- Laguna, Newport, Huntington, Irvine, Anahiem, etc..

idk man, i mean i kind of have this idea that there is a whole world over there and i wanna get the most out of it. where are notable places to get bud and find girls.

Well if you wanna see girls, i'd recommend the beaches. Malibu, all the orange county beaches, and Santa Monica is what i've experienced and recommend.

if you want bud AND girls, then i'd have to say Venice Beach. if you dont know what venice is like, it's a great community, right on the water, with all kinds of street performers, art, bums, head shops galore, food, knock off sunglasses, everything. it's a really cool place to go to walk around, nobody cares if you smoke there, because everyone is doing some sort of drugs. there's a lot of crazy shit to see there. there's muscle beach, where juiced-up freaks lift weights outside, there's pickup basketball games goign on all the time, theres a bunch of walls for street art, where people can come and make grafetti art whenever they want.

i really like that area, since i'm only like 10 min away from there, i try to go often. i've bought a lot of pieces from the head shops, they're all willing to haggle prices quite a bit since there's so many shops and so much competition.

it seems, like u said, there is soo much going on at once. how dou decide what to do/where to go. the thing is, i am very used to nyc so i know the city like the back of my hand and iam comfortable in it. after listening to californication, i had different views on LA, mainly how plastic it is and how cali in general will be the last state standing. info is great so far.

LA is pretty plastic as far as cities go. But that's just because of the whole hype of LA.. movie stars, models, pretty people. It's certainly not all like that, but you get a feeling of glamour/excess in certain places. The people know how to have a damn good time

i've never been to NY before, but i doubt it's comparable to LA much. LA has a downtown section, but for the most part, it is so spread out that it doesnt have a close-knit "city" feel to it much. The biggest pain in the ass is the traffic. since LA doesnt have a nice public transportation system like NY, you have to drive everywhere, and traffic sucks, period.

when i first came to LA, i did feel that in general, there is a fake, almost plasticy feel to LA. It's a strange city with a lot of interesting things to see though. i've grown much more accustomed to it though, and learned that you kind of have to accept the crappy parts with the good parts, because there are a lot of good things about LA. certain places, yeah, they are very fake and blah and uber-conservative. just take a trip to Rodeo drive in Beverly Hills and you can see that.

i bet if you took about a two week trip, you could see a lot of LA, and get a pretty good feel for it.

there's some pretty rough areas too in LA. Compton's pretty rough, South Central in general is not the friendliest place. East LA has some rough neighborhoods too. As well as Long Beach.
